“Better than expected”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2010

I had high expectations on this hotel but it was even better than expected. The view is marvellous, the staff excellent and Poerto di Soller a very charming place. Me and my husband went here on our honeymoon and I've seen some comments here from other couples who were annoyed with all the children in the hotel, for us that was not a problem. The familys have their own pool and breakfast room so it's easy to avoid the children if you want to. We spent most of our time on the terraced garden and the infinity pool, the perfect place for relaxing.
We found some very nice places to eat dinner at, the staff at Esplendido helped us with that. In our room we found a list of the best local bars, restaurants and excursions, a very helpful guide that we used often. Some places charge ridiculous amounts for poor food so be careful which place you choose.
The only negative thing for me as a Swede is that the hotel was full of other Swedish people (probably because the owner is Swedish), even some of the staff was Swedish. So if you're from Sweden, be prepared for this. Othetwise thumbs up for this wonderful place!

I travel often for work and also for pleasure so needed a different kind of hotel from the usual business hotels I stay in for a chill week. I found this in Esplendido.

Arriving late Friday night (of course couldnt possibly leave work early!) all I wanted was to crawl into bed. On entering my first floor sea view room and opening the shutters to the terrace all ideas of sleep disappeared. Just sitting on the balcony with a welcome complimentary beer gazing at the beautiful view was enough of a rest. Peaceful with the gentle waves lapping the shore - heaven after the journey from Geneva.

So the rooms - yes a little small but fine for 2 people, very comfortable, bathrobe, safe etc, lovely modern bathroom with great Korres and Ren products, balcony perfect with small mosaic table two chairs and two lounge chairs, yes small tv but why watch tv when you have such a view of the bay?!!!

Service was excellent, from housekeeping right througout the hotel - smiles and calm - perfect de-stress atmosphere. Special thanks for the guy on reception when I checked out at 5.30am and expressed my hope that the sun was shining in Geneva. He promptly opened google weather on his iphone and checked the weather at home for me!

As I was on a total chill break I hardly managed to drag myself away from the room terrace and many books but did venture to the pool one day - 2 pools, one adult only, a small infinity pool which was quiet and the kids pool below which well lets face it was a bit noisy but hey it would be rather sad if we couldnt look back to our own childhood and remember the excitement of being on holiday - especially with water involved!

Restaurant and room service were good quality - every meal was a relaxing experience. ANd if you cant face excited kids at breakfast use the ground floor bistro - for adults only.

As this was a chill week, interspersed with must see world cup matches screened in the lounge, (but lets try and forget that poor display!) I managed to plough through the books I had taken with me - no fear quick trip to floor 5 to the library where I promptly left my books and borrowed 3 more.

Port Soller itself in June was wonderful - small, peaceful, surrounded by mountains, plenty of restaurants, thankfully no massive nightlife after 1am (chill week remember), and the sea as a constant backdrop.

Highly recommend the resort and if you decide this is the place for you I honestly wouldnt stay anywhere else in the resort other than the Esplendido.

Why can the families who stay in the Esplendido not control their children? Even in the lounge area at after 9pm there were children running around, shouting etc and no parents anywhere (well at least not admitting it!)
This is a lovely hotel but its not relaxing and its impossible to get anywhere near the pool as there are children everywhere!
Most of the families seem to be English.
Good food in the restaurant but pricey compared to others.

We do a lot of travel and like good hotels. Esplendido got fantastic reviews on here so we decided to splash out and pay 240 euros p/n for B/B. For that amount of euro we expected the "wow" factor when entering our sea view room. On entrance we immedially noticed that the room was smaller than expected, our terrace was large but the paint on the wall was peeling off, the deck chairs were very tired & the shutter's paint was also peeling off. A nice pot plant or 2 would brightened the area up.
Bathroom was lovely.......but how long do want to spend your holiday in there ?
Small bedside table with no drawer and the smallest little TV in a cuboard. Pool area's small and in shade, any sun loungers with sun had towels guarding them. Also no dressing table & a sofa was missing which was in the online photo of our type of room.
We had 1 meal, dinner, expensive and not great.Breakfast was very good.
We had origionally booked for 12 nights. We moved to the Eden the next day at half the price.
Sorry Esplendido, you have a lovely hotel BUT a ridiculous rate.
We loved Sans Olivers for dinner, Paul you are a fantastic host!

Have stayed at Esplendido a couple of times in the past, and I am finding it more enjoyable each time.
For a start off it took a while to adjust to life here as were used to staying at their superb, sister hotel Portixol in Palma. The Esplendido is much bigger, transformed from a traditional seaside hotel right on the port of Soller, but it still portrays the same style and service as the Portixol.
The communal areas (bar, restaurant, lounge etc) are superb, as is the newly improved swimming pools. Here you can sit whilst over-looking the port of Soller over the roof top of the hotel, spectacular scenery!
Will definitely return.

We stayed for three nights at the beginning of June. The hotel has a wonderful location, in the middle of the bay of Port de Soller, facing the opening of the bay where the sun sets. We had a garden view room, which was very clean, comfortable. Breakfeast out on the verenda was wonderful. Furthermore, there are "public" terrasses for the guest who have a gardenview. Water and beer in the minibar was complementary, DVDs could be loaned from the reception free of charge. There hotel is very family friendly and attracts many families with little kids. At the same time they are very aware the guest without kids sometimes might have different needs, therefore the is a seperate pool and breakfast area for adults only.
