“Great place for breakfast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2013

Following previous reviews on Trip Advisor, we visited Es Reco for a late breakfast having caught the tram down from Soller for a day on the beach. It was very quiet when we visited as the beach right in front of the cafe had not yet got busy. We chose a simple breakfast of freshly squeezed orange juice (delicious), ham, cheese, toast, marmalade and coffee. Everything was well presented. Service was very friendly and efficient.

“Worst meal of our holidays”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2013

We read about this place and thought that it would be a nice place to enjoy a paella, next to the beach and in a quiet corner of the port. What a huge mistake!! We ordered the seafood paella and it was a terrible disappointment. The seafood was anything but fresh and everything was overcooked. The prawns were sticking to the shells and had a stringy mushy quality which happens when you overcook or when it is just not fresh. The last straw came when we saw the manager-owner, whatever he was, telling off one of his employees in front of everyone!! I do not recommend it and we won’t come back.

“What a Find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2013

‘Es Recó’ is situated right on the beach at the foot of the road up to Cap Gros Lighthouse in Port de Soller and is owned by a Chilean couple, Eva and Roberto.

Our first experience of the bistro was the lunch of mixed tapas we had before tackling the steep road walk up to the Lighthouse. On the basis of this meal, which was excellent, we decided to book in for their Friday night BBQ. We chose the fish option, which proved to be absolutely delicious, and to add to the occasion, the owners arranged, ‘at great expense’, for the full moon to rise over the mountains across the bay – it was a romantic moment, even though we have been married for 53 years!

Unfortunately we discovered the bistro rather late in our holidays (mid-September) and so we were able to dine there on only two more occasions. Our preference was for the excellent fish dishes and the ‘Catch of the Day’ means what it says – only fish landed in the Port that day qualifies for this description.

The owners and waiters were extremely friendly and helpful and, when the pressure on the kitchen eased off towards the end of the evening, we greatly enjoyed our conversations with Eva, who speaks excellent English.

Would we return? You bet! The problem is we would have to travel to northern Mallorca first!
