Our hotel, the Jumeirah booked a table for us at the restaurant. We are a family with a young child. We admittedly arrived 15 mins late and although the restaurant was not at all fully booked, plenty of empty tables we had appalling service right from when we arrived. The head waiter and only person in charge was dealing with another two men at the till to be paid, not even at their table, when we arrived. He still made us wait standing with a child. There were other people waiting too. The upstairs was not open or available to sit in. He flatly told us that we couldn't sit there. It was a very chilly evening so the only available area was outside. There weren't very many tables near a heater. After about 15 mins we were shown to our table, near a heater. This same young man told us that he would assign us a waiter so we had to wait again. No drinks offered either. We asked for the heater to be lit but had to wait. After another 15mins we eventually decided to try and light the heater ourselves. The problem with the service was that this head waiter did not delegate any of the order taking or important jobs to his team. There were 2 other waiters, one which just cleared the tables and the other who only delivered plates and took the dessert orders. That meant that he was the only one to show people to their tables, take the drinks and food orders and issue commands. There were about 10 tables in operation but everyone looked extremely miserable. He was extremely young and did not care about whom he kept waiting. We also ended up having to go and search for the drinks ourselves. The Head Waiter's total lack of service was also shown when he eventually decided to light the heater but then after showing another group of people to their table, near us, decided on their request to turn the heater down to nothing. We weren't asked if this was acceptable to us. The rudeness was further perpetuated when he said that we would have to wait for our turn for drinks, food, etc. No attention paid to our young child that he might be hungry and by now we were approaching 9pm (table booked for 7.30pm). The food was of very average quality but my son's pasta was the worst we have been served at a restaurant. How can you get plain pasta (penne) wrong? It was served very hard and indelible. We should have left immediately when everything started badly. The next night we found a great very reasonable restaurant called Es Canyis on the waterfront almost towards the other end (not Jumeirah end) - they don't have more than 20 tables, family run, very friendly to children and everything home cooked. For the same price, you get excellent service, run by a family that actually cares. The issue with Randomar is that you don't know when you'll get this shocking Head Waiter so do you want to chance it and waste your money?

This restaurant is in my view a must to visit if you like good food, friendly service and lovely atmosphere. I would recommend the Italian section of the menu in particular. If you can ask for a table on the balcony where you have an intimate, perfect view of the bay.

The place looks really nice and the menu reads like it should taste good. Sadly the food was poor. A pizza was so smothered in oregano it was inedible. A duck breast was overcooked. Only the hummus starter was less than disappointing. If they paid as much attention to the food as top the decor they'd have a winner, but this was way overpriced.
