1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2013 via mobile

I am currently staying in the citric soller, I have 2 days left , the hotel is bad enough to make me post this review after 1 night,

Pro's: location, view
Cons: staff, rooms, cleanliness, everything else ,

I usually try to find the best in most situations, and criticise people who demand Harrods quality for netto money, but this hotel is borderline inhumane.

I can see why it's non refundable , only way they could take money,

On arrival the staff were pleasant and friendly, explaining meal times hotel etiquette etc, then the happy times end!!!!!

The room, (low end non sea view no TV ) I can hardly put into words how horrid the room is, we were welcomed by a room with an open patio door , (broken lock/ damp smell removal, mould reduction) due to the proximity to local housing rubbish fires the room stank of smoke ( hid the mouldy smell though) it actually smelled fire damaged .

Then the COCKROACHES!!!! Crawling out the bathroom fittings running across the walls, you can hear the other hotel residents squashing them through the night due to the extremely poor soundproofing and screams of terror as a female neighbour finds a roach at 2 am,

The bathroom is horrific lighting is deplorable ( in the hope of hiding faults?)
Their was a large cracking the wall (ceiling to floor) and poorly fitting appliances (allowing roaches in)

The beds are adequate and warm but I refused to check the mattresses in case I vomited (what can't be seen can't hurt)

The food! Omg the food, we have 2 days to endure, it's quite an experience, only choice across the WHOLE restaurant is apple or orange or tea or coffee , it's like a nursing home, set menu that doesn't cater for any specific dietary requirements, staff could only be happier if they through your food at you from the kitchen door, it's a lottery of cheap mass produced slop , minimal thought by chef and (I do not use this word loosely) horrific!! service by staff, if you complain about anything ie ask for salt you get a shrug of the shoulders and then they turn their back. I got 2 glasses of orange juice and was IMMEDIATLY challenged "are you all included" no you must pay or put that back. Beers cost €5, wine per bottle min €8

I actually feel sorry for this hotel, STUNNING location, STUNNING views, with a bit investment and development this could be one of the best hotels in the resort, but neither the staff or owners appear to take any pride in what they do, some staff are wasted here, an old lady behind the bar grafts like I've never seen before , working tirelessly to offer some form of "service" I can't help but feel sorry,

To summarise, stay no more than 1 night , you hardly get what you pay for I know it's cheap but basic cleanliness is surely mandatory. Do not stay on any other board than B+B !!!!!!! , enjoy the location and price, don't expect anything worth praising,

I fear it would cost more to renovate this hotel than rebuild hence the fact it appears stuck in the 70's, and remains in the almost derelict in parts state it is in,

I won't be coming back,

Dear Mr Smith , you are not oblied to stay with us if you don't want, you just have to contact with your agent and ask to cancell the reservation ,we will provide you the phone in case you dont have it, unfortunatly in this case as there is an intermediary we can't do directly with you. Be sure we will help you to find the best solution for you.

Our staff already tried to contact you without succes , becouse of that we have left a message ,asking you to contact the reception just a few steps down from your room.

The reservation is non refundable becouse you choose that way ,You also have the chance to book flexible, but that was your decition.

You writte your room has no sea view , that's correc the 312 room doesn't have sea view, as stays in your reservation you book for a twin room instad of the twin sea view room that we also have in the hotel.

You also mention no TV , thats also correct as we preffer to offer Free Wifi and silent rooms, Please inform the travel intermediary in case you have seen that description in our rooms becouse thats not true. I've already read and couldn't find this on it.

About the food ,yes we serve a daily menu, and for that price 10 € you wont find any other place with this very good value for money in around 15 kilometers. Beer cost just 1.5€uros.

Wishing you to contact the reception in order to find a solution within your travel agent.
Regards.

Checked on all the reviews before we went so sort of knew exactly what to expect. The hotel is very basic but clean. There seems to be about 4 staff that alternate to do everything. I requested a sea view room but had no chance our room was looking onto the hill which is just a grassy bank, not really a problem for us as we did not spend much time there. Just one thing to mention this is not an all inclusive hotel, they dont even really know the meaning of all inclusive and when you asked for a drink you felt like you shouldnt be! There was no choice of food and breakfast is just cereal and bread rolls, cheese and ham. All in all though a great budget hotel in a wonderful spot and the port of Soller is a lovely place. ps recommend LK Lounge for a very nice meal and service.

Room Tip: Insist on a Sea view if possible

The location is great, rooms at the front have a lovely sea view. The bedroom was small but had a balcony, some don't. For a low budget hotel I was pleasantly surprised it is basic but clean. We did have an issue with towels but once asked for towels we did receive them. The rooms did not get cleaned whilst we were there they just made the bed and emptied the bins. We only ate in once and didn't do that again, very basic but only 10e. Overall we got what we paid for it is not 5 star but a budget hotel and one needs to bear that in mind. It suited our needs and we would consider staying there again.

Room Tip: rooms at the front with a balcony

17 of us arrived for walking holiday. The girl who checked us all in was pleasant and courteous, which is more than can be said for the rest of the staff. The French woman who did bits of everything (which they all seemed to do) was to old for the job, she was either partially blind or ignorant, I dont know which. We had many issues at the bar at night. This also included the guy on night duty putting drinks payments from punters in his own pocket. There never seemed to be enough staff. Our room was clean but smallish but again the maid just made the beds and did nothing else in our room, clean towels were a rarity. We ate in the "restaurant" once, and that was enough. Breakfast was ok, but the hotel is cheap and cheerfull. Despite all this we had a good holiday and can laugh about it now. Stick to b&b, do not go inclusive.

Room Tip: Rooms at front are best, the rear face a cliff face.

Just returned home from a week at the Citric and was pleasantly surprised. We had looked at a cheap week away and this hotel came up with the right price, in an area we had not been too before. ON reading other reviews we hesitated but kept returning to it as the price was so good in a very well rated area. So off we went! Followed instructions posted by others on how to get there by local bus and it was very easy and cheap, but if you fly home on a Sunday and your flight is around 11am then you will need to pay about £55 for a taxi transfer- fortunatley a lovely couple offered us a lift which was a god send - thank you Richard. The hotel is right at the other end of the port from were the bus drops you off, so it takes about 15mins to walk, but it is pleasant along the front and on the flat till you near the hotel. The hotel was what we expected basic- no TV, no tea and coffee facilities and hot water was an issue for some but not us. The food we thought was ok - 3 courses every night but with no choice. French waitress (Louisa) - come receptionist, come bar maid, worked her socks off while others were not so keen, but all tried to help you when the need arose. Drink at the hotel was cheap and had a selection of wine at various prices. The saving grace for the holiday was the area and the lovely walks. We walked our socks of every day and would highly recommend if you like walking and exploring. With the price you pay, keep looking at the sights and views you are getting and have a nice lunch out instead of getting worked up.

Room Tip: request a sea view - mountain view looks directly into the hill side and the rooms are dark

Hi
where do i start.
the food was really bad. there was no choice at all apart from breakfast. the quality of the food was very and it was very badly cooked. ie pasta that as like mush and i was given very burned food one night. All inclusive finishes at 10.30 and the french woman behind the bar makes you really uncomfortable about asking for more than one or at the most two dirnks in a night. The whole place needs to be renivated. there is a strong smell ofcalor gas in many parts of the building. the sun terrace is a rusty mess. it is actually the roof of the derilict part of the hotel. and the building nest to the sun terrace is deralict also. the brocken windows have been painted white to make it look better. It looks terrible. however the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. but we did get twin when we asked for double. it is cheap and quiet. bed and breakfast is the best idea

Our holiday at the Citric Soller started badly as when we arrived at the hotel the man on reception was very abrupt and rude to us. We was pleasantly surprised with our room and the lovely view. The hotel was pretty basic but the breakfast was o.k. The biggest shock came on our 5th day when we went out for the day and came back to find the hotel had closed down without telling us. My first reaction was panic as all our possesions passports etc were locked inside. We went round the back of the hotel and a door was open so we was able to get in to get our things. It was very stressful and expensive as we had to pay for another hotel for the last night. Our booking was made in good faith with no mention of the hotel closing so can,t believe they could treat guests like this. It put a big damper on a lovely holiday.

Room Tip: It is best to get a sea view and a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor as it is noisier on lower floors.
