This is the best B&B I have ever stayed at and better than many hotels. The rooms are huge and kitted out with fridge, hairdryer, complimentary shower/shampoo, plenty of towels, Sky TV, thermostat and all the floors are carpeted (but still immaculately clean), including the upstairs hallways. There was even a mechanised shoe polisher in the landing. Behind the building, a ruined castle looms, adding an extra dimension of atmosphere that is rarely found elsewhere.
Pierce was a great host, introducing us to the Star of India in Thurles for dinner and giving us many travel tips for our next day's excursion to Dublin (Japanese Garden and Irish National Stud was a fantastic recommendation). The breakfast was superb, especially the perfect poached eggs with toast and salmon.
Wi-fi should have incurred an extra charge (due to logistics given the size of the house!) but Pierce allowed us to use it for free in the hallway, which was great. To top it all off, the price was no more than what we had been paying at other establishments (35 EUR pppn). The Castle is genuinely excellent.
