“Slightly overpriced.”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

Called in at this establishment very recently (30th and 31st March 2013 )both on our way from Northern Ireland to West Cork and on our return the following day. On each occasion we wanted only coffee and scones. Although the staff were friendly and effecient we found it to be slightly expensive for what we got. That said the premises are well placed and bathrooms clean and tidy. I think all things considered we would call again.

Thank you for your review and I am pleased you enjoyed our hotel and the facilities even though you felt we are a little pricely. Our scones are priced at 1.90 and 2.40 euro and are freshly baked in our bakery every morning and our coffee is 2.10 (incl vat) which we feel are keenly priced for the quality.

Quiet 4* hotel and leisue centre just off the M8 motorway with Thurles town just 10 minutes away. Equestrian theme throughout the hotel makes it quite unique. The standard room is quite spacious with a double and a single bed. The bathroom is big enough and old fashioned with plenty of toiletries. The only complaint is that the room was cold on arrival and we had to request the heating on then and another couple of times afterwards. The leisure centre is brilliant with a 21 metre pool, gym, steam room, jacuzzi and everything else you can think of. The restaurant is quite pricy but the food quality is excellent. The breakfast buffet will not leave you hungry. The cafe and the on-site bakery are brilliant too and very popular. The traditional pub with open fire offers yet another reason to stay here. Would definitely go back.

Room Tip: 1st floor, facing the back

I stayed here for one night in February 2013 on a work trip. It beats the other nearby hotel in Thurles hands down. Rooms were clean, service good & very close to the motorway. Good gym facilities. The gift shop themed on guess what...yes horses and hounds was really cute and had u usual items.

we stop at this watering hole when taking the M8 in either direction. The old world pub offers comfortable seating arrangements and hearty food in a setting which is a treasure trove of equestrian memorabilia. The open fire hearths give a warmth and comfort to customers seeking a break from the monotony of the motorway and the range of food never fails to disappoint. The walls are trophies dedicated to the glories of the equestrian past which makes for interesting table talk! A traveller finding himself or herself in need of refreshment on the motorway would be advised to make this watering hole a regular stopover!

Just back from a 2 night stay at this hotel. its was very relaxing and staff were most helpful. Rooms were exceptionally clean and comfortable. The spa was divine and the staff there were fab. Just had 2 small problems -
1. the food was very over priced (€18.50 for a mixed grill without bread or tea /coffee, €18.50 for a green curry with rice - not even a huge amount, and €18.00 for cod, peas and chips) in the bar. This was just the bar food prices which in my estimation was over priced for what we got.
2. they tried to charge us twice in the bar for our drinks - the bill came to €67.00 which we paid with laser but the hotel then tried to charge us again upon check out. Also saw another couple in the bar settling their tab and they were charge for wine that they never had.

Other than having to check what your charged for this hotel was definately 4 star in my estimation.

Couples will love this hideaway
