“A lovely old harbour”
Reviewed December 22, 2012

This is a beautiful place to spend some time at. You get a feel of the history of the place while admiring the lovely blue sea and sky. I just stopped here for a short while on a trip to Epidauros but I'd like to spend more time here.

“Beautiful at any time of day but especially at sunset.”
Reviewed November 8, 2012

The promenade is simply a lovely place to be. Lined with restaurants and bars, you can sit and watch life go by. The view across the water are gorgeous and the lights on the fortress of an evening just beautiful. A magic place at sunset.

“stunning”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

day or night this promenade is spectacular, great views of the bourtzi ( a small castle in the sea ) and the castle in the mountain behind with its huge bastions. the influences of previous settlers here is immediately obvious as you walk into the main square. Next time i wil stay here for a week and use it as a base. I would recommend visiting out of season as the locals have more time to talk to you.

“A great place to relax and enjoy.”
Reviewed October 5, 2012

The Promenade in Nafplio stretches along the waterfront for several hundred meters. The first part runs beside the car park, where ferries, Greek Coast Guard vessels and small cruise ships tie up. It is featureless, though there is a strip of restaurants across the road. Then the Promenade takes a dog-leg bend at Filellinon Square where the Grande Bretagne Hotel stands. The road turns inland here, and the rest of the Promenade is pedestrian-only. The waterefront path is lined with small cafes, outside which are tents covering chairs and tables with uninterrupted views out across the Bay of Argos to the little Venetian fortress called Bourtzi, just 100 meters offshore, and the coast of Argos two kilometers beyond. Fishing boats tie up at the Promenade and some will carry tourists out to inspect this deserted fortress called Bourtzi. which is free to enter, although the boats charge 30 Euros for the return trip including 20 minutes waiting. Every time I come to Nafplio, I like to spend some time sitting at the waterfront cafes on the Promenade, having a coffee or a beer, and reading, or writing postcards. It's a very relaxing thing to do. Try it ... and let a little of the magic of Nafplio creep into your bones. I always do just that, whenever I come to Nafplio -- and I always go home feeling like I'm carrying a little of Nafplio's magic with me. It's that sort of place.
