“Magnificent, but not for the faint-hearted”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2013

We drove to the top (we'll walk up the steps next time). The fortress is much more extensive than it looks from the town. An amazing collection of bastions, mostly in good condition. There are no safety rails within the fortress (just some over window openings at the cliff edge) so not sure this place is suitable for children (unless you keep hold of them) so the I am puzzled by one of the recent reviews. Walk up a stone staircase and there are fifty feet plus drops a couple of steps away. I don't get vertigo, but I did here. But this all added to the experience. The leaflet was brief and there are no information boards, so I will do my own research before visiting again next year.

“Breathtaking view from the top of the castle”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

We really enjoyed our visit to the Palamidi Castle. It is a must-see attraction if you are in the town of Nafplio. The first day we were in town we drove up to the castle and walked around for hours. My young children loved running around the fortress and being able to explore the castle with freedom. I especially enjoyed the breathtaking view of the water and the town below. The next day the kids wanted to go and visit the castle again so we walked up the famous 999 steps.

“Cardio workout with the Gods”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2013

Early mornings you will find groups of people walking or running up the 999 steps of the Palamid Castle. What better way to exercise and the views are breathing. Wear comfortable shoes, take a bottle of water and get ready for your work out. Don't worry if you are not the exercise type as you can catch the local bus that departs frequently form the centre of town during peak periods or you can take your car to the entrace of the castle. The walk around the Palamid castle gives you an amazing panoramic photo opportunity for the budding photographer in you.

“Worth the hike!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2013

We hiked up the steps to the top, almost 1000 of them! It was a hot day, so we took our time, counting the steps as we went and stopping to catch our breath from time to time. The views on the way up are just stunning, and it's much more enjoyable to walk up than to drive, imagining how any attacking soldiers would have felt by the time they got to the top! At the top, check out the dungeon (would not want to be locked in there!) and the church. Not much else to see at the top except the view, but it is a spectacular 360 degree view of the incredibly gorgeous turquoise blue water, the town and harbourfront, and the hills towards Mykonos.

Take plenty of water, as nothing was open at the top in May.
