“Breath of fresh air”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

My mom and I stayed at Liakoto Hotel, in the picturesque village of Kardamyli, in a studio room with a balcony overlooking the sea. As we'd come out of our room, the door opened to a gorgeous vista view of the Taygetos mountain. Breathtaking! Liakoto is such a lovely hotel. I liked the Greek Korres brand of shampoo, soaps, etc in the bathroom and really appreciated the beach towels and beach "dressing gown" which one can wear to walk to the sea. I also appreciated the magazines and books which hotel guests could loan. A villager from a local shop in Kardamyli, on hearing where we were staying, remarked it was the best hotel in the village! Highly recommended!

This is not an extravagant hotel but very suitable for families and longer stays. Kardamili is most pleasant and the hotel is right next to a lovely bay with some of the clearest waters you can hope to find in the Med. I would gladly return and stay longer as there is so much to savour in the Mani region. Friendly staff, good facilities, ideal for the self reliant traveller.

Room Tip: Face the sea as inner courtyard may be noisy when hotel is busy

How can one tire of this hotel - situated right by the sea - those gentle waves lulling you to sleep; prime position for sunset watching - and there were great ones this October; with views over the mountain - from our lovely sunny balcony; warm welcome - from the indefatigable, professional hoteliers Gerri and Ilia; personal touches in the rooms - great Korres products (now available in the UK) and home made biscuits!; interesting and excellent quality wine list - for finding out about new grapes! We will be back

Room Tip: From some you get sea and mountain views - great

My wife, two year old son and I stayed here for a little over a week in October. We've been here before as a couple and my wife for a girly break with her mates. We tend not to go back to places unless they really impress as we like to try different things so the fact that we've been here four times between us in the last five years says it all for us.

We stayed at Liakoto in a one bedroom apartment but my wife has also stayed at Anniska with her friends.

Liakoto is on the rocky shore of a very large bay in the village of Kardamyli in the Mani region. It's about an hours drive from Kalamata airport.

The architecture of A&L is traditional and considerate to its location. The design and layout gives it more of a little village feel than an apartment block.

The one bed apartment is spacious and has a fold out bed in the living area - so you could sleep four if you needed. You get either a sea view or a mountain view from your apartment, though I think some penthouses may get both.

The rooms are very clean and well appointed with air-con in the living area and bedroom. An underbench fridge freezer is provided as is a two ring cooking hob and utensils. I think you can get a toaster if you ask. The shower is hot and powerful with toiletries provided and, much to my wife's pleasure, a hairdryer too. Liakoto has wi-fi access in every room and Anniska on the balcony and in some rooms - this was helpful to give our two year old his fix of Peppa Pig on youtube. There are little libraries on both sites and you can get a drink too - try the white wine.

Cooking proper meals on the two ring hob is a challenge but we managed it. You just have to be creative and do try making something with the local tomatoes. Having lunch out and evening meals in worked for us with a two year old in tow.

The owners and staff are very welcoming and we've always been made to feel special - we've noticed that they do this with everyone and not just a select few.

Liakoto has the swimming pool, which has mountain views and is very clean but brisk. Anniska has a balcony and sun-loungers that overlook the sea. Whichever site you stay at you may go to the other - they are a very short walk from each other.

Anniska has steps into the sea if you fancy a swim there and there are also steps from a small jetty just past Liakoto. The sea is not as intimidating as it looks.

For a small place Kardamyli has a lot to offer but it hasn't lost its traditional charm. There are four supermarkets, a lot of restaurants, a couple of (thankfully quiet) bars, a pharmacy, bakery and bike hire shop. You can go diving - speak to the owner. The sandy beaches of Stoupa are a short drive away - you can cycle it if you are reasonably fit and there is a lovely off-road cycle path from Stoupa to Agios Nicolaos. You can also go on mountain walks too.

This is sold as unspoilt Greece and you can't argue with that. The area is thankfully undeveloped and I hope it stays like that. The people here are lovely too. Sitting out on the balcony listening to the waves without the thump of music in the background and watching the sun go down over an unlit peninsular is a simple relaxing pleasure that we can't get enough of.

There are a few ways to get here but we've flown into Kalamata airport. You can get a taxi from Kalamata to Liakoto but this is expensive about 50 - 60 euros and we've found it best to hire a car. It is quite hard to get out from Kalamata and onto the mountain road to Kardamyli so it might be worth asking for directions when you book. Once you are on the mountain road drive carefully especially in the dark and if it has or is raining - the roads are slippery.

Back to Liakoto. This is the place to come if you want to relax and get away from the hurly burly of modern life either on your own, with friends, your partner, or with family - it's not the place for wild stag/hen do's or chavs and it suits mature or professional clientele or families that like spending time together. Highly recommended.

This was one of the best accommodations on a month trip to Greece and Istanbul. Very large, clean, comfortable room with a kitchenette and large balcony directly facing the sea. We were treated to an incredible lightening show from our balcony one early morning. The hotel has a pool and small bar. A very good, included breakfast is served at its sister hotel Anniska a block away also with great ocean-front views.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean front room. It's well worth it.

A perfect family holiday. We are a family of 5 and travelled with my sister and her family. We each rented a family apartment each. The apartments were very clean and fully stocked, Kardamyli itself is absolutely gorgeous, great beaches, excellent tavernas, cafes a lovely square to have ice-creams in the evening. We hired cars so we could explore the area, there is plenty to see with the mountain villages and resorts further down the coast. I would highly recommend the studios at Anniska, Kardamyli and the whole region for a great family holiday.

Spotted an advert for Anniska-Liakoto in the Spectator when we were holiday hunting in the spring. The four of us, including our 2 daughters in their early twenties, were looking for a place to re-charge our batteries after a hectic year and Kardamili hit the spot. Very quiet, beautiful scenery and gorgeous warm sea to swim in. Both "hotels" are really a number of serviced self catering apartments, small, with friendly staff and the pool at Liakoto is lovely. Watch the sun go down on the terrace at Anniska enjoying a G and T, pure bliss. Kardamili is not for those seeking night life, banana boat rides or fine dining, but for a place to just relax, reset your stress levels and read copious amounts of books, it is hard to beat.

Room Tip: The 'penthouse' in Liakoto enjoys great views, is spacious and very quiet.
