We decided to go on a family holiday for my father-in-laws 60th birthday. My wife and I, my wife's sister and brother-in-law and their young daughter took him to relive a memorable family holiday from approx 20 years ago.
The location of the Mani is wonderfully unspoiled. It can be quite rocky, but the popular beaches are not too crowded and absolutely beautiful. Greece of 20 years ago can be quite different to the modern experience of places like Corfu or Rhodes. The Mani has charm. Nightlife is very relaxed, with no noticeable music bars or nightclubs. It's quiet.
The location of the villa is outside of the towns with amenities and taxis are a problem. The villa lends itself to entertaining at home and with the right music and the pool lights on at night, it can be quite glamorous. There is plenty of space, enough that the different families in our group always managed to find an escape if needed.
The seclusion does come at a small price. The track from the main road to the villa would give even a Land Rover a run for its money. A car is essential and although you only need navigate the track one or twice a day, it does get annoying rather quickly. On balance, it's a minor niggle, but something you should be prepared for.
Overall, the space of the accommodation and the location being close to some of the most relaxed and unspoiled parts of Greece, make it very easy to recommend this villa.
