Very busy and spoilt by all the boat taxis.
Much better to walk over to the carpark and carry on walking along the road for a few hundred meters and you will find a lovely beach all to yourselves.

“Wish I had read more reviews than just the guide book!”
Reviewed July 30, 2014

We wanted to visit Palm Beach as shown in the Rough Guide to Crete. My husband was not keen for a long walk back up so took the road turning. Absolutely terrifying in an ordinary car . The road was just rock and a sheer drop on one side. Thankfully we did not meet many cars coming the other way but I prayed all the way down and all the way back up !! There was still a good ten minute walk down to the beach. There were no sun loungers and we sat under a tree where the sand was gritty. I liked the Taverna but yes the toilet was grotty but hey the beach is out in the middle of nowhere ! The palm forest was truly beautiful leading to a river coming from the cliffs.
I would never drive down again and definitely not the best beach on Crete.

Be warned if driving, the road is very stoney. Access by boat from local, private owners, check price INCLUDES return, usually only 1 way!

Preveli beach along with its Palm Forest makes the best place to relax, explore, anything you want. Amazing view from the top and even better when you get closer!

“not so good any more”
Reviewed July 11, 2014

Since the fire they have taken away the pedaloes you used to be able to ride down the river. Now you can only walk down one side. the Taverna is very average and the w/c is awful.
