Small friendly clean accommodation. Really close to beach, tavernas, shops and eateries. Plakias is a lovely small, quiet seaside place, ideal to while away the day. No loud, noisy places in the village at all. Only drawback 2.5/3 hrs from airport, but well worth it in every way, after seeing a lot of the drop offs enroute, Plakias and the friendly staff far out weighs the travel time.

Plakias is a lovely chilled place to stay and the Costas & Chyrsoula apartments are very relaxing and chilled that really fit the vibe of Plakias.

Located just off the beach and main the strip everything is on your door step. We watched the sun go down every night on a lovely beach just round the corner.

Supermarket just 2 mins away has everything you need and there is a fresh fish shop along the road where we got our dinner to cook in the apartment which has everything you need.

The owners are super nice and solved any problems we had very quickly and happily, we had a lovely large patio with a lovely view of the surrounding mountains.

Pool is very clean and well maintained and has a pretty bar next to it occupied in the evenings by the great Angelo.

Highly recommend Plakias and Costas & Chrysoula apartments for a relaxing chilled holiday.

Room tip: we had room 47 had large patio and good views

This was my first time to Plakias, although have been to Crete before, and used Olympic holidays several times before too. We checked in at 6AM after a night flight and 2 hr transfer, and were very grateful to have been given the room key so we could get our heads down for a couple of hours before we started the recurring theme of laying by the pool all day, every day!

Breakfast is served in the pool bar each morning although we were happy self catering. The bar was well stocked and lovely in the afternoons and evening, the staff were all lovely, friendly and attentive.

The room itself was clean and provided everything we needed, kitchen utensils were limited but enough for a week and had plates, cutlery and glasses for 2 so was no bother. We are more than certain we could have asked Costas or the team and they would have sourced whatever we needed. the beds were a little harder than i am used to but that's personal preference and the harder mattress made it feel like the bed hadn't been slept in by a countless number of people. Bathroom again was fine, sink, mirror and loo. the shower head didn't stay on it's hook when showering, but we found it just as easy to stop the tap between rinses!

We were a bit worried as our room was the first behind the bar, so apprehensive to see if the bar got loud late at night an kept us awake... it could have been the copious amount of raki served with every dinner, or the fact we spent most evenings in the bar too, but we were not disturbed! The only negative on the room was our AC was broken, and despite telling the hotel owner and our rep, it was never fixed during our week. I will stress that we didn't make a big fuss, we could have pushed them harder to resolve / move us, but we actually were not too hot so didn't bother pushing it.

Plakis itself was great, the restaurants are lovely, the beach is not too busy and everyone was very friendly. Yes, it is windy on the south coast of Crete and flip flops etc did land in the pool each day, you will get sand blasted on the beach, but you can hardly blame the hotel for the weather.

Wow! What a find. This place has such charm and the staff just wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble. Clean spacious rooms, clean bedding and towels. Our two boys loved the pool and nearby beach. Super buffet breakfasts and half board meant a meal at the taverna on the beach. The menu was the best of all the local restaurants, the service second to none. We will certainly return one day....

Room tip: Apartment was super

Where do i start?
Getting off the coach after the 3 hr transfer to be almost blown over by the wind?
How come no one mentions the wind on past reviews?
Imagine there's a hurricane about to hit - now imagine this every day!
This is Plakias! The locals even have a name for it!
Tom our rep went for the 10000 meter sprint, leaving us to locate the hotel ourselves. Tricky when its hidden down a secluded passageway!
We go into our room, basic but ok i suppose.
And the wind hits, I don't know which was worse, the glass door rattling, the wooden door rattling, the howling of the wind?
I go to reception where Tom provides Beer Mats to wedge the door, they didn't do much for the wind noise though - go figure.
Smoke alarm missing, distinct lack of self catering facilities, and the air con wedged with cardboard - see pics!
He Man required to open either of the doors.
Great service all in all! - Really, Olympic, Really ?? Beer mats for the door?
Went to the welcome meeting hoping to find some info about the local dentist, which Tom said he'd sort. Nope nothing.
I asked if we could swap rooms, as the noise at night is unbearable from the wind and the rattling - rest of the holiday -yep nothing.
My wife was around when the maids came in, but they left in minutes - blown out by the wind perhaps?
Don't expect hot water in the morning, or pressure in your shower.
We had two sparrows fly in to use our shower, as their puddle was almost dry - but they laughed and went back to their puddle in disgust.
Don't expect a smile or conversation of staff unless you are spending money at the hotel.
Prices aren't cheap either.
Distinct lack of umbrellas by the pool.
Seriously guys, if you think this place is worthy of 4 1/2 stars, you've stayed at some pretty bad places.
The bed is too small and hard also, so trying to sleep on it with Hurricane Charlie outside is a joke!
Plakias is nice, but be prepared to lose a couple of layers of skin every time you go on the beach! Wish i'd of took my old bike frame that needed sand blasting.
Beautiful place with nice local restaurants, just shame about the wind!
