“Our getaway”
Reviewed July 14, 2012

We have just returned from a short stay (unfortunately), at this beautiful hotel. The hotel is very clean, spotless and the rooms are renovated, very clean also with plasma tv and comfortable beds. The view from the balconies varie from pool to sea or garden view.Which ever you choose is nice.
The buffet at the restaurant is rich and very tasty both at breakfast and dinner. Congratulations to the chef as he managed to make my 7 year old son to eat all his food without any complain, and not only that he was asking for more!!!
The restaurant staff is exceptionally friendly and always there to help you with whatever you need. Thank you very much Helen, Theo, Michalis, and of course the Maitre Stelios, you are super!!
I must not forget Nikos and Panos,at the pool bar, they are very kind and Panos prepares nice "Margaritas"taste it!!!
The area of Plakias and Alianthos Garden is the ideal getaway for those looking for a quite, relaxing vacation. I spend my vacation to this hotel for the last 10 years so believe me when iam saying you will not regret it!!! Thank you for everything one more time!!

After a somewhat adventurous journey from Rethymnon we arrived at Plakias. The Alianthos Garden (4 star) is pretty much the first subtantial accommodation you come to as you enter Plakias. For us this was a relief. Being early July and technically just outside the school holiday period we were able to secure a double room without any difficulty complete with Bed and Breakfast and for an additional special offer Dinner as well. The hotel is very close to the beach and has adequate parking
Our room on the first floor was clean and tidy complete with TV, Wi-Fi access (so you can take your laptop - notebook - IPad - tablet - smartphone) air conditioning, power shower/bath and a balcony overlooking the swimming pool. An It area provides 4 functional PCs
The food is on a bouffet style both at breakfast and at Dinner time and can be quite filling.
The night life was rather quiet but this suited us - a short walk to the local shops, restaurants and night club(s)
Our stay was only for two nights but a good relaxing start to our ten day stay in Crete
We hope you have a lovely time

We picked the Alianthos Garden Hotel for its good reviews on Trip Advisor, and Plakias for its location on the south coast of Crete. Normally, there are quite a few boats from this location to nearby beaches and islands to the south of Crete. The hotel is only a short distance from the beach and the port, which was not a problem for us (salt water swimmers). There is also a nice pool with sun beds and shade. The Alianthos Garden Hotel turned up to be an excellent value relative to the price for room and half board. The food was good and included typical Greek dinner items (the cook was proud of his creations). Breakfast has numerous choices, although the orange juice was rather watery. Used dishes were cleaned up quickly by friendly personnel. Overall, the hotel is very clean: we noted extensive mopping during the morning and cleaning of the pool.

On concern may be the size of the rooms and the space for the shower. In our case, the shower was exceedingly small (you had to drape a plastic curtain just around you), and you had to hang your clothes using an innovative pull-down pull-up system with a storage high up. It worked, but it showed that every attempt was made to create space. We requested to see other rooms, and indeed other rooms had much more space, but we had a much nicer view towards the see and could enjoy our balcony. Towards the beach there is the Alianthos Beach Hotel, which appears to be a nice hotel, but this blocks the view from many rooms in the Alianthos Garden Hotel. We therefore decided to stay in our smaller room with the nice balcony and view.

We stayed 2 weeks in Crete and this hotel was towards the latter portion of our stay. As guide books suggest: it can blow very hard in Crete, and we did experience this during our stay, to the point that all on the beach activities cease to exist; none of the boats were running. We used our time in Plakias to make excursions to gorges, Phaestos and other touristic attractions. We also visited Matala, which is also an interesting place to see. We believe that more going on there, however, it seems that the better hotels are in Plakias.

Overall, we do recommend this hotel for its excellent price/performance.

Room Tip: A room with a view towards the beach will likely be smaller and have a very small shower. A bigger r...

We stayed for a week, 22/5/12 to 29/5/12, bed & breakfast, plentifull, healthy buffet breakfast. We found the service to be excellant, the room was what we had expected. The room was cleaned every day that we were there, all staff were very helpfull & courteous.
2 minutes walk to beach, which runs parallel to the main road street. Plakias is a family friendly, quiet location, with a selection of shops & tavernas
Sea on one side, mountains with interesting mountain villages on other side, lots of walks.
Quiet beach at Soudha, just up the road. Plan to return in September, would recommend car hire. Long transfer time from airport, would recommend taxi.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view to the mountains, or the sea

We stayed here for a week and it exceeded our expectations. Not only is it a great value for the money but the service is absolutely outstanding! We found the hotel convenient for taking road trips to other parts of Crete as well as walking tours. The room was quiet and had a view of the ocean. The breakfast was one of the best I've ever seen with its selection and daily changes of options. Highly recommended for an escape from over tourist areas of Crete.

Room Tip: Book online.
