“On the way to Souda”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

As you leave the village of Plakias heading west, you come to this lovely little taverna.

The staff are very welcoming, and will joke with you as soon as you walk in, making you feel that you are already old friends

The rest of the clientèle are very friendly too.

But they will stuff you with garlic bread, even before you have your dinner, so be sparing with that.

The main courses are enormous, but I would avoid the barbecued rabbit, as our portion seemed to be more bone than anything else. Try their Apanemo Plate - it will fill you and is extremely tasty, with keftedakia, yemista, salad, dolmadakia and tzatziki.

The house red is also very pleasant, and there was fruit and a large flask of raki to send you off full and happy.

The owners are also on hand, and the whole place exudes friendliness - well worth it and good value for money.

“Nice surprise - authentic Cretan cuisine!”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

I visit Plakias once a week and me and my wife bumped into this taverna by accident, as most restaurants were still closed, because the tourist season has not started yet. The lamb with artichokes in lemon sauce and the beef stifado are absolute recommended! The grilled bread with garlic spread was also nice surprise for the taste buds. Foreigners should be aware that the foods are not being served "steaming hot", as traditional Cretan foods are not being served that way. The waiters were friendly and attentive. The taverna is located just west of Plakias on the road towards Souda. It's a 5 minutes walk away from the hustle and bustle of "Down Town" Plakias. We will surely be back to try the lamb chops. Also recommended in a more "cosmopolitan setting" is Taverna Gorgona directly on the beach road of Plakias. Always fresh food and excellent service.

Its all about the lamb chops here - best in Plakias. Lovely taverna with great hosts - stuffed red peppers pretty tasty too.

“Original Cretan Food”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

If you really want to taste great Cretan food, away from all the tourist traps that Plakias if full of, just walk 3 more minutes to this little tavern in the western part of the village. Spectacular view of the whole Plakias bay and of course the Libyan sea and Gavdos Island in clear days.
Portions are great and taste is beyond expectation, thanks to the owner's mother who cooks the food. Don't miss by any reason the lamp with spinach, the zucchini flowers and pork with tomato sauce.

“Always satisfied...”
Reviewed August 12, 2012

This little tavern is located at the left side of Plakias, when looking at the village with the sea in your back. The word Apanemo means "without wind", which is a great plus when it's windy in Plakias. If you are looking for a real traditional tavern, this is the place to go.
The portions are really big , prices are the opposite ( a big plate of pork with red sauce and fresh fried potatoes only costs 6 euros!).
This place has a consistency that you may only see in much more expensive restaurants, food is always delicious and fresh.
Don't forget to ask for greens from their garden!
