“Nice located and good service”

This hotel has in addition to the main building, many cottages you can rent. I stayed in one of the cottages and it was large and fully equipped. Two bedrooms, kitchen, livingroom and bathroom. The standard is not up to date, but clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and had the hole range. I met only friendly people who worked there. The two girls at the bar and the night portier was especially helpful and friendly. They did all in their power to help you.

We stayed for 3 nights in the llittle houses with two families of 5. The houses are large enough with two big bedrooms and another place to sleep in the living room. Well equipped kitchens but small badrooms (including toilet). All was very clean when we arrived and also the service at the front desk was good. We did not have breakfast or dinner at the hotel restaurant as we went to the bakery in town for the morning and had breakfast in our house. In evenings we discovered two nice restaurants in the centre of daun. Our kids enjoyed the swimming pool and the sauna/spa looked ok as well allthough fully booked at the time we wanted to reserve. Very nice place to start your biking tours although the hotel is on a hill so the last 500m of your reverse trip do hurt. But a beer at the terrace compensates for it.

We went 4 days to this resort and spent new years eve there. We stayed with 4 adults and 1 child in a "luxe"-cottage for 5 persons. It had 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, spacious living room, spacious hall, terrace with wooden furniture and little kitchen.
Everything was very clean and tidy, enough space and furniture. Lots of closetspace. Good beds, clean sheets. Soap, bodylotion etc. in the bathroom. Bath-shower combination, good shower, always warm water. Kitchen: Microwave, baking oven, coffee maker, water boiler, toaster, 4 cooking plates and a tiny, tiny dishwasher (it worked fine). The kitchen was a little underequiped, we only had 5 forks, spoons, plates, cups...so dishwasher did his job minimum twice a day.
Only minus in the cottage: we couldn't regulate the heating. The cottage was heated with electric "accumulation" and gave a constant heating. We had to sleep with open windows in the middle of winter. A technician came and said we couldn't regulate it ourselves and had to open windows. Not that ecological and efficient....
The resort it selves is also neat and tidy, nice trees, playground and forest walks. The pool and sauna are spotless. No remarks there. Sauna is not expensive at all. We payed 8 euros and could stay as long as we wanted, got bathrobes, towels and soap. You can eat/drink something in the beautycenter, there's a little bar there.
Reception: most of the receptionists only could speak German, little minus there because our German is not that good...But they gave chocolate to our son everytime he passed by :p
Food: we didn't eat in the restaurant so no comments here. We did order breakfast-bread, this was easy and good. You have to order it before 6pm the day before and you can pick it up from 7am. Nice, fresh and very tasty!
Normally it is forbidden to park your car in the resort. We did park our car on the parkinglot because our cottage was near there, but everybody parked his car in the resort. I think the management can do a better job reminding people to put their car in the parking lot and not in the narrow streets between the cottages.
If you want to go to Daun, you can walk, it is 4 km, or take your car. There is enough parking space in Daun. You can also visit the vulcanic lakes, you can walk there also (I think it is around 6km) or take the car there, enough parking space.
Don't go there for cityvisits or shopping, it is only nature, nature, nature...but that's what we wanted :)

On our outgoing run to Switzerland we stayed in the Dorint at the Nurburgring which was a perfect experience. However on the return leg we couldn't get in so decided this was the next best thing as surely a 4* hotel from the same group in the same area couldn't be that different especially when the rack rate for the room was the same?
All we could get at short notice was a Maar Cottage which sounded nice on the web. We arrived at around 1730 and found nowhere to park in the vicinity of the reception and no sign of a car park - the service road was lined with parked cars.
We eventually made it into reception and service was good, we were given cottage 159 which was close to reception but told we couldn't park nearby apart from unloading which was a pain as even though we searched the web site and reviews on here (and aerial pics on google earth) for parking info we didn't think parking would be away from the cottage - important as we didn't want to fully unload our car - it looks like a safe area but parking in a distant desolate car park on fringes of the site with no CCTV etc isn't what I expected from a chalet. As a result we remained in the unloading area as many others did. The Dorint Nurburgring has a secure underground car park.
On approaching the chalet you can't help noticing the poorly cared for grounds, not a great first impression - worn grass, scruffy hedges. On entering the chalet our hearts sank - it's spacious and can accommodate 4 (if you pay extra for 2 more people) but even on the sunny autumn evening it was depressing. Firstly there was a funny smell (reminds me of visiting elderly relatives), then the garish (but clean and unworn) carpets, net curtains. Our small kitchen window was so dirty on the outside that with the sun on it, you couldn't see through it. The bathroom looked OK at first but in the light there was a lot of wear and tear including a split in the sink's surface that had brown tinge about it. The kitchen was generally clean but the dirty cooker knobs looked like a student flat.
My wife was surprised that the beds didn't have mattress liners on them under the bed sheet.
The white plastic garden furniture was covered in grime - unacceptable really.
We had really enjoyed the great value evening buffet at the Nurburgring Dorint and had booked this one partly for that but we decided judging by the room it was best to eat elsewhere and drove into town.
We slept OK but only thanks to the spare pillows and duvets in the bedroom we didn't use.
Breakfast is served until 11am which sounds great but check-out is also 11am - however the staff said it was OK to check out at noon so we did.
The breakfast buffet was OK, some of the fresh fish and meats looked a little unappealing and the only pastries were some limp croissants or something that looked like a fruit pie that had been broken into pieces. I don't recall the last time I'd seen the fried eggs all piled up at a breakfast buffet - most places, including Dorint Nurburgring do them to order.
Would I stay again? Err...no. If you can take advantage of the resort facilities and great hiking and biking opportunities in the area and maybe get a tidier room then it could be worth it but as a simple stopover don't bother.

Room Tip: Don't have a chalet unless you need the kitchen facilities. The apartments have nice balcony...

This hotel has lots of outdoor activities. Unfortunately, we stayed for a business conference and the fact that this hotel has no wireless in most of the "cottages", is not conducive to business travellers. They have wireless access in the lobby but it is horribly slow and disconnects frequently. The restaurant was good with excellent variety for both the breakfast and dinner buffets. Be prepared to carry your luggage up and down loads of stairs as well. I dont think i would choose to stay here again given the choice.

We just got back from a 5 day stay at this resort. It was absolutely wonderful. We stayed in a one room apartment which was spacious enough for the four of us. The breakfast buffet was terrific as were the meals in the restaurant. There is plenty to do, a huge playground for the kids, mini-club, indoor pool, sauna, pool table, bierstube, outdoor chess and checkers, even a small bowling alley. The staff were all very nice and there are plenty of things to do in the area. The only down side was the childrens' entertainment in the evening, it was really bad quality and the kids didn't enjoy it very much. Otherwise, great value for money and we definitely would come back.

Room Tip: Choose the ground floor apartments

The location of this hotel was very nice but this Dorint is certainly not 4 stars. Everything was a bit outdated, especially the rooms. It all looked run down and just plain old. My heating unit smelled like paint. I guess instead of replacing the unit, they just painted it over....
No internet either.
