My extended family and our pets recently stayed here (12 people and 3 dogs) and we all had a fantastic time. The house is spacious enough that we all felt we had our own space while at the same time providing areas for us all to be together, such as the covered outdoor area near the BBQ where we spent most of our nights. The BBQ itself was large enough for me to easily cook for us all, and I could easily have catered for more.
The kitchen in the house is well equipped, and the house itself has all you could ask for in terms of utilities, such as a washing machine for clothing. The pool is very large and deep at one end, and the house looks over beautiful countryside views. There are several larger towns within quick driving distance for groceries and the like.
There is an old church attached to the house, which our host was kind enough to guide us around, and there is a lot to do in the local area. We particularly enjoyed the market in Mirepoix.
All of us had a great time here, and I would like to thank our hosts for letting us stay in such a perfect place and giving us a really memorable and much needed holiday.
We spent an amazing week in Le Presbytere, with twelve people perfectly catered for. Five couples had enough space in large, well-furnished bedrooms. In a large group you sometimes want some time to yourself and that was more than possible here. Communal areas were fantastic, as were the cooking facilities: oven, hob and especially barbecue could have catered for even more than the twelve of us! Outdoor area and pool were superb, with plenty of room for our three dogs- we spent most of our time outdoors, weather permitting. Beautiful views of the countryside from almost every window. Hosts were attentive and very generous, even bringing us delicious fresh vegetables on a couple of occasions! Would strongly recommend to any large groups/families looking for a wonderful time near to beautiful countryside walks, historic towns, or time by the sea. After a week, we were all sad to leave!
Twelve of us spent a week at this property – fifteen if you include three dogs. There was plenty of space and it never felt cramped. The property itself has real charm and character, and is well equipped. Whilst the house was of ample size, we spent most of our time in the equally spacious garden – the good sized pool, extensive lawn area, large patio (with excellent bar-b-que) and table tennis kept us occupied for long periods and most of us agreed that this was one of the most relaxing holidays we’d ever had.
Catrina and Martin were very helpful. We were keen to view the rarely used church next door, and Catrina managed to source a key and arrange access. She was generally happy to provide information and advice whenever required, and even scheduled an appointment at the vet for us.
All in all, we had a really nice stay here. The accommodation is excellent, and the hosts very welcoming.
What a place, like in a movie. Not top deluxe but very much loaded with atmosphere of old and new. A lot of rooms with their own bathroom. Not all rooms (devided on 2 levels with different starecases) are a 100% usable though due to low ceilings but those will suit for kids. Large Kitchen with really everything you need needly arranged, with XXL table that easily seats 14.
And then the view. In clear weather you can see land, hills and behind those you find the Pyrenees. Increadibly beautiful and constantly changing panorama.
You need a car to do your groceries (10 km) or to go and see things. So if you like to go out and sit in bars and on terraces this might not be your place. But if you go for beauty, tranquility, nature, history ans a swimming pool, this is the one and only!
We rented the house together with the old school opposite, which we used for yoga. Just great!
If you are looking for a place to stay with many people, it is probybly one of the best places you can find in this area. The house provides a lot of space and is fully equipped to accomodade big groups.
We celebrated my 50 birthday for one week in this house and very much enjoyed the time. "Leben wie Gott in Frankreich" (liiving like God in France) was our original idea and this idea really became true. The location has everything to have a relaxing time (super nice view and swimming pool) and to prepare the most deligious meals (hudge kitchen and outdoor barbecue).
The Wifi only works in the living room and in one of the bed rooms. This is an advantage for parents who wish to control the digital access of their children and for those who do not wish to sleep with Wifi waves. For those who like to have full access, it might be a limitation.
For the celebartion of another big birthday, we would certainly come back again.
We went as an extended family with our 7 sons between us (age ranging from 14 to 27). The whole holiday was a joy. The villa itself is stunning with the most amazing large pool. We took a pool volleyball net and played for hours. We had table tennis , backgammon and pool volleyball tournaments. I am an avid cook and the massive kitchen area is beautifully stocked with pots, pans and cooking utensils.
The living room is large and comfortable with a smart TV, a library of DVDs and loads of books to borrow,
Evenings were often spent drinking, chatting, playing games, cooking and eating. The actual region of France has copious things to do and visit. We went to Carcassonne medieval city (and watched the jousting which was fabulous). New Carcassonne is also stunning and worth a second visit. We went to Lac de la Caveyere and spent a fantastic day (particularly the lads on the ridiculously great fun slides) there. TAKE A PICNIC!
Mirepoix is a stones throw away and beautiful. We spent a happy evening sitting outside a beautiful cafe, chatting, eating, drinking (again) and people watching.
Catriona and Martin live next door and are unobtrusive, very very helpful and knowledgeable about the area.
Tips - You need a car to get around - Taxis are non-existent - apparently the restaurant in Fanjeux is fabulous but the owners ere on hols when we were there :( (maybe they heard we were coming...) If you are flying, it is an easy journey from Carcassonne airport (30 mins max) to the villa.
If you hire a car, buy the additional Car hire excess insurance before you go (about £30 for 2 weeks.)
Anyway. Book it. Enjoy it. I know you will :)
