We returned to this site in June '11, having stayed two years previously. We stayed in a 'Eurocamp' lodge. This is a quiet but interesting site, well placed to explore the region but nice for lazy days on site. The restaurant, unfortunately, lost its chef while we were there but the staff managed well under the cicunstances. The on-site baked bread is delicious. The wine tour is very interesting and the tasting doesn't become a hard sell, even though the wines are excellent and worth buying.
My only quibble is purely personal, as there isn't a suitably dark place to set up my telescope for star-gazing. We are planning our return next summer.

Room Tip: The lodges are outstanding.

A disappointing campsite considering it was a Castel site AND 5*. We have definately stayed at nicer 3* campsites in France.

There was only ONE toilet block for the whole campsite which led to long queues for showers at peak times. And the toilets were really unclean.

The restaurant was a really band eating experience as well as they served us up frozen pate! We also waited nearly 2 hours for our mains to arrive.

The staff in reception were rude, implying that they did not have the time to sort out a problem that arose whilst we were staying there.

This campsite should be rated a 3* campsite with dirty facilities.

We enjoyed our 1 week stay in a Eurocamp cabin at this well-run campsite. The site is across the road from the Domaine de Massereau vineyard, the good wine from which is available in the site shop as well as local supermarkets. Located 1.5km from the town, there is a paved disused railway railway connecting the two, which makes for a pleasant and fairly flat walk. In the other direction the disused railway goes all the way to Nimes, for those with bikes and lots of energy. Bikes are available for hire from reception although are not cheap.
Sommieres has a lovely old town at its heart and really comes to life on Wednesdays and Saturdays when there is a market along many streets. The site itself has 2 good pools, 1 with water slides, a couple of table tennis tables and small hard court for Badminton. There is a bar, small shops selling the basics including fresh bread/croissants etc. and a fabulous restaurant serving really great food in very generous portions (need to book).
After 11.00 pm the campsite is very quiet - great for us but would not suit all. Maybe partly for this reason, many young families but few teenagers. Staff were all helpful and friendly.

We have visited this campsite for 5 years and have yet to find one which surpasses it. Our kids are now aged 16, 13 and 10 and they still love it. We have stayed in both the site-owned chalet and the tour operators' chalet. No great difference except that the site-owned are closest to the pool/restaurant etc. We are normally here at the end of June when the site is about 3/4 full - and this is our preferred option. This year we were here until mid July and it was noticably busier everywhere but still not a problem due to its size. We have already booked for 2013 so that says it all!

I've just returned from a week in this lovely campsite in the South of France, on the edge of a village called Sommieres, near Nimes. Was with my two young kids aged 4 and 3. We stayed in a cabin and as this was my first time camping with the kids I was a little apprehensive. However I needn't have worried. The cabin was great and A/C a godsend in 39 degrees of heat. Campsite was very well run. We had our own loo and shower but I did inspect the communal facilities and they were totally spotless. Restaurant at the site was gorgeous - open air dining with roof only for shade. Kids could play around on the lawn and trampolines and we could eat and watch them. Superb pool complex with water slides etc and very safely secured so small kids couldn't slip in unaccompanied. Only slight complaint was that the pool supervisors were a bit slack when the jumping in and horseplay in water got out of hand. Some of the Daddies were coming down the waterslides like torpedoes which was a bit dangerous for small kids in the pool. Best thing about the campsite is its location beside the Voie Verte cycle track which runs for several miles (a converted railway line) meaning you can cycle safely into the nearby village as well as miles in the other direction. Kids club was also very well run by a lovely Dutch girl who made great efforts to speak English and include my two kids the morning we dropped in...most of the kids on the site were Dutch.
