Owner description: Located in the small town of Pushkar in the Ajmer district of Rajasthan, The Pushkar Lake is one of the most prominent spots of pilgrimage as well as the site of the world famous Pushkar Fair. Encircled by numerous temples and ghats (bathing spots), the lake draws thousands upon thousands devotees every year to its threshold, to gain spiritual distinction and attain salvation by taking a dip in its holy waters. As the Kartik (Oct-Nov) month descends, the site becomes the focus of soulful devotion and pilgrimage as auspiciousness of this time is highly emphasized in Hindu sacred texts. At the same time, Pushkar Fair wonderfully exhibits the vibrancy of Rajasthan with exotic colors, dishes, dance, cattle fair and numerous entertaining contests and competitions. With amazing spiritual atmosphere, Pushkar Lake remains the site of timeless reverence and spirit.

Hire a guide to explain the lake and you'll learn all about its significance to Hindus. Your guide will also ensure you don't walk in the wrong place in shoes, and will be able to explain the various ghats around the lake.
I found it interesting in the day, when people were bathing and the light was bright. But it was lovelier at night and in the early morning when the light was prettier and colours reflected beautifully.
Some Hindus go for a daily stroll around the lake to reflect and think. Others bathe here.
It's definitely recommended on a trip to Rajasthan!

Pushkar lake and town alone ,are reason enough to pull you to Rajasthan. The lake is surrounded by 52 temples and Ghats( read bank) in a semi circular formation. On one side of the lake stand a steep hillock with a small temple right on the top.In the evenings it is a treat to experience the aarti/prayers.....especially during the renowned Pushkar Came Fair when the Temple formation around the lake is lit up and glowing like a necklace. This lake is spiritually endowed and acquires prominence in Hindu Rites and beliefs in afterlife.Adjacent to the lake is the only Brahma temple in the world( Brahma...the creator in Hindu belief). Moreover the lake and temples surrounding it are highlighted by the market that has evolved over the years. From artefacts to Designer but affordable garments ..everything including cafes and food stalls are attractive....for the simplicity. No alcohol in the town of Pushkar.Visit this place during the annual camel fair in November.

Pushkar is name of lake and town. It is 416 Km from Delhi, train route and time for travel takes 7 hours. It is 13 Km. from Ajmer. This is only place where Brahma, the creater god's temple is
situated. People come from all around the country and large numbers of tourists visit from around the world. Annual cattle fair is the great attraction. Small attractive market selling handicrafts, textiles, books, cards, and food items like Samosa and sweets. The market is where people walk, talk, eat and enjoy. It has religious lake where people take bath and in evening the lake is worshipped with Mantras and lights. small and inexpensive hotels and places for stay are there. Brahma was going to do Yagna, and called his wife Savitri to reach immidiately, but she was late,so Brahma arranged another lady as wife. When Savitri reached she found another lady with Brahma so she became angry and went on hill, there is temple of Savtri on hill. Do not be late and visit Pushkar enjoy market, eat Malpue(sweets) and Samosa.
You can get a small booklet,"Puskar" in English and French for a half Dollars. You can see Photographs on internet. Please remain aware about cheaters.

Nice views around the lake and various interesting Ghats. You can also eat in a Cafe overlooking lake. Or, if you choose to bath in the lake, you cleanse your soul.

Very historic, pristine water, nice settlement at the bank, be careful with the guides and the puja and sponsorship asked for.
