“Great location spartan accommodations”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

The best thing this hotel has going for itself is the location. Everything else is mediocre at best. Rooms were dingy and dark. The bathroom was gross. Stay here knowing that the location is what it has going for it. Very close to river, cenotaphs and walking distance to all sites. Orchha itself is a magical place well worth visiting and staying overnight in order to see everything. Just know that you will have to deal with rather basic facilities in order to experience this wonderful place. The wifi in the lobby was good. Better than most hotels we stayed in India...

We decided to stay at the Orchha resort after seeing the lovely picture on the net of the hugee swimming pool and the low slung resort in the background and rest assured the first view does not let you down.It is a beautiful property to look at from the outside and the view of the cenotaphs from the property is also amazing. It is very well located and is within walking distance of all the sights of Orchha though that is not much of a competitive advantage since all luxury hotels in Orchha are similarly located. As you enter the reception keeps up the feel though it is at times unstaffed and one has to wait for the receptionist to come out. This was made up for by the fact that the Resident Director of the resort Mr.Khullar himself chose to be present to welcome most guests..
The room though let us down.Firstly it was smaller than most standard hotel rooms and the room we were given opened on to a lawn smaller than the one we have at home and then on to a blank wall.We did not open the windows even for a minute in the two day stay here.It would be appropriate to insist on pool facing rooms as only they have a proper view.
the biggest factor leading to a downmarket feel in the room is the absence of lcd tv sets.every room has an old fashioned desktop kind of tv and hence the tv viewing experience was certainly below par.The remote of the tv did not function but was replaced immediately.
The toilet was decent sized though the washbasin would not drain out fast enough leading to a slightly unhygienic feeling when brushing ones teeth. There was enough hot water and at about the right temperatures..
The buffet dinner and breakfast were both with a wide enough range and fairly nice food.when we walked in and asked for the buffet price at dinner it was quoted at Rs.500 plus taxes per person but on seeing that we were not partaking of it at that price it was brought down to 350 plus tax and then to 350 incl tax.Though it was nice to get a buffet for a price lower than quoted it was an uncomfortable feeling to know that rates were flexible not fixed leading pone to believe that maybe room rates could have been similarly haggled down too.The two plates of rice and a single plate of daal at only slightly less than the price of the buffet the next night seemed overpriced.ad it would be wise to prefer the buffet over the a la carte menu.
the spa seems grossly overpriced
While leaving the person at the reception fixed up cab for us to go to Khajuraho at Rs.2000/-but added Rs.250 at the;last moment claiming a tax which was not paid anywhere along the road.and he surely pocketed the difference.
All in all a nice place to be in but keep your eyes and ears open and in case you have any problems ask for Mr Khullar who is a nice helpful and accessible person but-
1- insist on a pool side room
2- bargain on the price of the buffet
3-be careful while hiring a cab from the receptionists contacts. It will be safe but some padding could be there in the price.
4- take Mr.Khullar's advice and walk to all the sights the taxi charge of Rs800 for a total disctance of 4 kms both ways is exhorbitant

Room Tip: poolside rooms only.the others open on to blank walls.

While the resort is well built there are many problems. Our room # 216 was right over a side gallery which the hotel had converted into servants quarters. Not only they were loud and noisy but had no idea that guests were being disturbed so awfully. Stayed there for two nights on the 30th and 31st of December . Unable to sleep on both. Hotel management couldn't do a thing despite repeated complaints. Food needs to be fresher and chef needs a bit more imagination and help in making the buffet menus. The breakfast menus on both days was same and so was the dinner.a huge wall has been biult on the banks of the river so there is NO river view at all. The rooms are claustrophobic as there is no sunlight in any of them.

Room Tip: Ask for pool side room. Avoid room number 216.

We stayed at Orchha Resort for 1 night on 29-12-12. I exchanged a number of mails with Ms Kalyani Dagar before booking and after being convinced that the arrangements would be good enough, I booked the resort and payed the total amount in advance. We booked a deluxe marble room but we reached there, we were given a room adjoining to reception, with total lack of privacy. We naturally opted for another room and were provided with another marble deluxe room which was located at a better part of the resort. But this time, to our utter shock and disbelief, we found that the there was no proper drainage system and the comod overflowed after use, with faeces getting scattered all over the floor of the bathroom. This nauseating experience compelled us to seek accomodation in another room, which was of an inferior category (standard room).
I asked the hotel manager to refund the amount resulting out of being provided an inferior room, but was rudely refused by the hotel personnel. I also called up Ms Kalyani, who looks after the reservations, but did not get any positive feedback either.
The food service was also quite average and I would strongly recommend the tourists to avoid this resort. Hotel Amar Mahal Palace is the best option.
All in all, we had a pathetic experience at Orchha Resort.

We stopped for lunch at this hotel as part of a Gate1 tour so we never stayed at hotel but the location is great (right on river and near temples), the facility looked very inviting (upscale motel) and the grounds are very nice. The food was also good.

This place was a great experience. We stayed in one of the deluxe tents at the back and this was a great experience. We were looking straight over to a huge temple and this was awe inspiring. There used to be a pool by the tents but unfortunately they have got rid of this for some reason...the photos that we saw did show a pool there. Where has it gone?
The staff here were ok but they did seem to tell us one thing and then another. We were told by one member of staff that we were not allowed a late check out, however the next morning we asked and this was perfectly fine.
Finally the food and drink here is very expensive. We were charged an extortionate amount for water so make sure you go and get some from a shop else where for a fraction of the price.
Overall a great experience to stay here due to its surroundings and its location which is a 10 minute walk from the centre.

We are frequent travellers and we go for a vacation every November. This time we planned for a short and sweet trip and decided for orcha..we did not get any bookings in any of the top ranked resort but fortunately were promised for a deluxe tent in this resort..to our utter pleasure we found the resort perfect in everything..
location-just adjacent to the betwa river, chatris and market
Rooms:were simply awesome ...clean...though the tents were not dat good
food...food was a major plus point ..it was simply tasty and served with love which made it even better.
pool:was very neat and clean and separate pool for kids.
staff: I have never seen such a courteous staff..specially the restaurant staff..would want to make a special mention of mr kamlesh who served us whatever we wanted in the food.At times i felt we were getting too choosy bout the food..but he never raised a brow..and served us extremely well...would reely want to make a recommendation for him to the owners..staff like him will really take your resort to no.1 position..thanks Mr kamlesh..also mr khullar at the reception who gelled well with us and guided us in the tripand mr hemant and prince who were also very courteous
others:it has a fitness centre and spa for relaxation
I would recommend this resort strongly to people looking for a peaceful ,calm and hassle free getaway..
thanks orcha resort for this beautttttiful stay...i will cherish this trip...and will visit again
1 tip: if the management could ask their sales staff to be a bit polite and kind to the customers..though ms kalyani chawla madew a good package for us...i have no complaints...but the first impression might last longer and when i called up initially for the booking and knew nothing about the resort..i talked to her..and was just dicey on booking the resort ..based on the way a customer is handled ..i assumed i will be handled in a similar rude way at the resort also and was refraining for booking in this resort..but then booked...and will never regret my decision for booking this one

Room Tip: Rooms are way better than tents...if available go for rooms only...we satyed in room 104..which is p...
