“Just OK”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2013

At this stage we had seen many other impressive forts in India so this one did seem not as spectacular. The beggars on the way to the fort are somewhat annoying. Also somebody tried to scam money out of us as we were wandering around the building and wanted to enter an archway to an open area.

“Palace complex worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 7, 2013

Once you get across the bridge you can forget the ugliness and horrific traffic noise of modern Orchha.

Take your time to fully explore the palaces - find the tiny staircases and climb to the top for great views across the countryside. The raj mahal has the best paintings but bring a torch.

The trail around the palace grounds is free and gives you the chance to take a walk in peace and quiet away from traffic.

We were shocked by the lack of care and maintenance of the complex, especially as there are so many buses of foreign tourists all paying the 250Rs - where is this money going?

“Amazing Views and Free Reign”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2013

As with the palace, you are free to wander round the fort without people stopping you every 5 minutes. It means that you tend to spend a lot more time exploring but its worth the effort. The fort is right next to the palace so its easy to get to. The surrounding buildings are less impressive.

“Best light and sound show in the region”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2013

The light and sound show is less hyped compared to Khajuraho or Gwalior but trust me, this one is the best. In daytime also, The fort offers a magnificent view of the surrounding area, especially if you can climb a few floors of the Raja Mahal, the view is simply breathtaking. Ticket price includes all the local attractions, so definitely a value for money.

“Hidden royalty”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2013

The fort of Orchha in Madhya Pradesh, and located very close to the city of Jhansi is one of those architectural styles which is a perfect blend of Mughal and Indian styles. Beautiful fort, wall murals and paintings done in natural vegetable colors, and a regal aura about it. Hidden in the forests of Orchha, this place is worth a visit.
