Baz Bahadur was the governor of Mandu, appointed by Akbar. When he became a little too independent, Akbar sent Adham Khan to oust him. The palace is a lovely building. We were lucky to meet a local tribal who played an enormous flute. He also sang a folk song and danced for us-'Oh sister of mine, I will go into the forest to cut wood which I will sell. With the money I will buy you gold bangles. But for that husband of yours I will only buy a clay pot!'
