You don't get to see this kind of place in the middle of the city ... vastly spreaded , its a nice place to move around , walk around ... see the fantastic museum , also spreaded across green acres of land ... Its a hilly area , and you can see the upper lake from here ... breath taking view

The museum is not one building but a lot of outdoor exhibition areas on rocky hills. Carry Umbrella, water and snacks. If you can manage a cycle/transport it would be helpful as the distances are not small and with smaller kids it may be a problem. The cafeteria is pretty basic only tea, chips packets and bottled water.

The exhibits like rural engineering practices, tribal housing in India would be an eye opener for the city kids. The natural history and anthropology museum is also good. The exhibits are well labelled unlike the nearby state museum where some them are labelled only in Hindi.

They normally have some kind of exhibitions and sale of handicrafts organised as melas. They also have a sales counter where you get indigenous art forms for sale.

It is a great and very large museum of local housing and people throughout india. well designed and superbly realised, it is pleasant to spend the day there and discover its diversity, details, message. It is a major attraction point to Bhopal, though not the only one

Manav Sangrahalaya is a Museum of Mankind having the original dwellings of all the tribes from all over India recreated here. The household utensils and daily use items, jewellery, paintings etc. of each tribe can be experienced here. There is also an excellent museum and auditorium where varoius folk and tribal performances take place round the year. Various thematic food and handicraft festivals are held throughout the year. It can be clubbed with the visit to the Upper Lake. Do not miss the snake boat from Kerala or the big earthen horses from Bishnupur, Bengal or the golden sandstone house from Jaisalmer.
