This is a wonderful temple complex - has a stone chariot whose wheels can rotate though they have plugged it, musical pillars which again is used only on some special occasions, intricate carvings.

The main temple is located a couple of kilometres away from where vehicles are parked. You have the option of walking or taking a battery operated car.

Ancient ruins that once housed hundreds of thousands of people. Massive marketplaces, battered statues that are still beautiful, you can spend hours wandering through these ruins and then start again. You can see how magnificent these ruins were/are in one day but ideally a week here would be preferable.

If you are going to vitala temple i recomend that you go walking from the police station. It is a 25 minutes walk by the side of the river, very peaceful and by a small path. You can also come back through achutarya temple so you make a nice round. If you are also visiting lotus mahal and elephant stables, it would be nice to visit that in the morning and vitala temple in the afternoon, you so don'thave to pay more than once. If you have only a little time, you can watch sunset from matangha hill, which is at the end of the round walk to vitala temple. Enjoy!!!
