“Fantastic location and wonderful service”
Reviewed February 18, 2011

The woman who runs the place is incredible, she's extemely helpful and will go out of her way to ensure you have a good time in Hampi. Transport from Hospet was provided by Padma Guest house. They also called around to ensure we got the best price for a taxi to Badami. The breakfast is included and is delicious. The guest house also talked me into staying a couple additional nights for a festival happening in Hampi, I would've missed out on a wonderful cultural experience if they hadn't told me about it.

Hampi has a lot of basic accommodation and this place is one of the best amongst those available in the Hampi Bazaar area. We had unwittingly organised to be in Hampi over a festival weekend so accommodation was at a premium price. We had pre- booked and Sagar, Padma's son, had efficiently organised for us to be picked up by tuc tuc from Hospet Station which was great after the overnight journey. A twenty minute journey took us to Hampi town and Padma's, which is in a good position, up a quiet street adjacent to hillside ruins with a back route to the temple, main Bazaar area, the river and town life. Temple view from the sunny roof top terrace and easy access to the nearby hillside ruins to watch the sun go down. We were warmly welcomed by Sagar, offered a place to store our luggage while we waited for our room to be ready and breakfast on the roof. Be prepared with money to pay on arrival as Padma requested we pay for the room shortly after we had got there. Our corner room, on the first floor, was airy, spacious, had windows on both sides and was acceptably clean. It had twin beds, side shelf, mirror, hooks for storage and enough plugs for reacharging purposes. We were provided with one sheet and blanket and a medium sized towel each. Blankets and towels were adequate but the sheets were not crisp or well washed, and one was unacceptably dirty. We had sleeping bag liners so it wasn't crucial and we didn't ask for replacements which I am sure Sagar would have provided. The attached bathroom was clean, of reasonable size had hot water shower, miniscule corner basin, bucket and jug and working toilet. Shampoo, soap and toilet paper were provided. No mosquito screens on the windows but a mosquito plug in was provided which was refilled on request. Sagar was ready to help with any requests and organised a tuc tuc for a half day to take us around the ruins which lay further afield which worked out really well. Make sure you negotiate with the driver what the total charge will be before you set out and only pay up when you are safely back. Padma and Sagar can give you an idea of what is reasonable.

I stayed one night at Padma on a quick trip to Hampi. The room was simple but clean, with a small outside area to sit and take in the view. AC was available but I didn't need it in February. Padma and her son were courteous, helpful and kind. They made me feel comfortable and welcome. I wasn't feeling well so Padma brought me something to eat and let me rest the next day in an empty room while I waited for the train. And there was free wify! This is rare even in much larger hotels and was a definite plus for me.

At the first glance, you may feel that it would be a better bet staying in Hospet than in Hampi itself, but as we continued our journey, we realized that staying in Hampi had it's own benefits. Saves you from trouble of moving up and down and harassing autorickshaws..we could definitely plan our days better, and since Hampi is one of those places which can be scorching hot even in winter season, we needed those occasional trips back to guest house to freshen up
The guest house is quite nice - located in centre of city with view of Virupaksha Temple gopura. Rooms are small, but nice and rest rooms are functional with hot water...You need to coerce the maid to clean up the room though :)..For 1000 rs a day (shared), you cannot expect to get other benefits and hence you will be required to carry your sanitary stuff with you..
However, just as we were wrapping up our stay, we lost some of our valuables ..not sure who was responsible (owners or someone else?), but one thing you will surely need to be careful on

Padma and her son Sagar where a great help in this friendly hotel. Good value for money with direct access to the ruins through a back gate. Down stairs room was good and honey bananna pancakes were great 4 breakfast. Booked through Insara and was honored easily. If fancy a game of informal cricket just ask Sagar.

Hampi has many small guesthouses, nothing very fancy. Didn't see any other ones so cannot really compare but we loved PADMA'S because ot the view...it stands higher than the Temple, near the bus station. And, what made it special for me, was PADMA'S smiling face, always willing to help and make us as comfortable as possible.
