The best way to have a beautiful expierence with the hampi tour and the best homely place to stay is to stay in the mowgli guest house.
the rooms here are of south indian style(huts) with a sleeping chair in the front.
there is a good cool wind from the tungabadra river which makes a pleasant environment.
the rooms are installed with solar power which is eco-friendly
i stayed in many hotels but never experienced such a great feeling that i have experienced in this restaurent
It is the perceptive and friendly service that makes it worthwhile staying in this small family-run hotel
The owners and staff are social at just the right level and they go to great length to make you feel at home
i liked the sleeping bed in front of the hut which is the best relaxing spot
i recommand everyone to stay in mowgli guest house

Room Tip: take the rooms at the back of the restaurent to have a grat experince with the river and hanpi city...

This guest house comes very close in a lot of ways to being good if not excellent. The rooms are big and quite nice, the views are great and the food at the restaurant is ok. But what really lets the place down is the completely missing in action management. Everything that you ask gets the reply "I'll have to ask the boss", who is rarely if ever there. Simple things like late check out, organising taxis, laundry etc all have to be referred to the boss who seems to show up for about 10 minutes a day. The boys working there seem to be trying their best but have no authority to answer anything on their own.

When we did eventually meet the boss (on day 5 while checking out) he didn't say one word and just handed us a bill. No hello, no thank you for staying, not even a break down of what the bill was actually for. The whole experience really turned me off this place and I wouldn't recommend this to other travelers.

It must also be noted that this guest house is on the other side of the river to the temples and requires you to rely on a group of exceptionally lazy boat men.

Room Tip: The huts overlooking the rice field have a great view, but watch of for bugs and snakes.

we were shown to our little hut, which looked quite sweet from the outside, with a small area for relaxing; inside there was adequate space , but it was as if the room had just been vacated and not cleaned, (which was probably the case)
It wasn't till the next morning, with a younger, more helpful person on reception, that we discovered that our room should have been equipped with towels and a top sheet, and we were given them
The view over the paddy fields, especially at sunset was impressive and the restaurant was ok;
generally, the overall impression was of a lack of organization, and of a place which thinks it doesn't need to try so hard anymore.

...I have to agree with some of the less enthusiastic reviews. This guest house has all the potential of becoming outstanding, but it is the attention to details that keeps it from fulfilling its potential: rooms are *almost* in great shape, *almost* spotless, staff is *almost* helpful (and that's when cricket isn't on... if it is, expect to be ignored), laundry is *almost* ready when you're already packing to check out, rooms are *almost* well-priced.

Note that location is not convenient for intensive sightseeing - this is a place to come and chillax, and not much else. Rooms are expensive for what you get (even in the low season), although the views are spectacular. The restaurant is a great place for meeting other travellers in the evenings, but is also priced like a tourists' venue, while across the river food is a 1/3 of what it costs here (of course there is no practical way to get across the river for dinner since the boat stops running at 6pm).

Know what you're getting and what it costs, accept the price for what it is, and you might have a good time here.

Watch for anything that may crawl up your toilet - I had a friendly frog hanging out in the water when I needed to use the bathroom at 2am.

Room Tip: Not sure the rooms with a view, which go for Rs 800, are actually worth more than the Rs 500 rooms w...

Had a river room, very nice view from the terrace, but because of the hotels cows and garbage just behind the rooms there were so many flies during the day that it was no fun to be outside. And in the night plenty of mosquitoes in and outside. The huts have open space between Walls and roof. Room was not cleaned very well, and badly maintained. Restaurant is nice, good food and friendly service.
Reception friendly and helpful.
Stayed for 5 nights, this was fine to see Hampi.
Mowgli is fine, but the rooms are not ok for the price you pay.

Just a noce place to stay, room was again basic but had hot water and an aircon and fan. You can sit in the communal area and just relax. Nice little restaurant with good food. You can go walking in the paddy fields and down to the river, beautiful sunsets. Beautiful relaxing place, I will got back.

Quiet location, very close to nature, away from the noise of Hampi town.
Excellent food, and the boys who serve are very decent.
Room can use some upgrades (specially bathroom) to make your in-room stay better.
They arranged for sight-seeing and made useful suggestions.
The courtyard is a wonderful place to relax. The adjacent paddy fields are definitely to be recommended for an early morning or late evening walk to the quiet riverside.

Room Tip: The new rooms are probably better equipped (we stayed in the old cottages, which has its own charm...
