“and the river flows by it.....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2013

The river flows below the restaurant; the location is serene and it is best if you relax and sit in for an unhurried meal. It is magical how it immediately transports you to a different pace. The restaurant is in an undulated natural surface; so each table has a sense of privacy.
The furniture is pretty basic. The indian food was nice; the pizza took a long time coming and was not really worth the wait. However I was surprised that they had it in the menu to begin with.
It has a lot of foreigners frequenting it.

“Great Location”

A lovely walk through a banana plantation and you end up at the famous Mango Tree. A good choice of menu and so cheap but the view is amazing.

Please, please, please try the Nutella Pancakes.

“Fully deserves the praise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2013

I write this review only hours after a very satisfying lunch at the Mango Tree. We got off our car at an iron gate and then walked about 200 yards on a two feet wide gravel path between banana plantations to this charming place overlooking the Tungbhadra river under a huge mango tree that is reputed to be anything from 200 to 400 years old. We were required to take off our shoes before entering the dining area which offered three seating options - one could use chairs and tables, site cross-legged on mats placed on a rectangular platform at the base of the tree, or sit on the wide steps sloping down towards the river. We chose the third option. By this time the day was pretty warm - even in the third week of January - and the sun quite hot; but the tree and the structure provided good shade and it was quite comfortable.

We opted for the Mango Tree Special thali which gave us two chapatis with rice and five different dals/vegetables to go with them. The service was very prompt and the food quite good. For dessert we had rice pudding - which was like a rather thin 'kheer' very lightly sweetened. For those who like their dessert sweeter the restaurant provides extra sugar and honey.

Overall it was a great dining experience. We wanted to sit there for some more time after finishing the meal, but more people were arriving and we needed to vacate the place.

One essential facility this place offers is a reasonably clean toilet - something one doesn't find elsewhere in Hampi.

“Stunning view and good food !”

A short walk along the banana plantations and the Tungabhadra river and you reach The Mango Tree.

Prompt service, good food and the view of the river gushing. Excellent place for a little R & R.
Seating is on the terraced floor and rates aren't too steep. Fresh juices are the best and the thalis are filling.

“Really tasty”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2013

A great spot at sunset. Really tasty curry and a fairly good desert (even though there are not very many options of the latter). A few minutes to walk though.
