“Average Hampi Stay”
Reviewed November 12, 2008

The Hotel is blessed -location-wise. It is close enough to a lot of the principal attractions and also the main Hampi bazaar and yet away from the hustle of a thriving tourist area. The grounds of the Hotel are vast and the rooms -as a result- are extremely well ventilated. Though I had an A/c room, keeping the windows open and the A/c off worked very well as there was a stiff breeze with clean air flowing through the room.
The only advantage to booking an A/c room is the increased carpet area that comes with it.
The staff is friendly enough but they seem a little indifferent and laid-back. 'Striving to provide prompt and efficient service' is not a concept that seems to have caught on.
The food- The thali meals for lunch are quite ok. Not spectacular or memorable but fresh enough and cant crib much about the same.
The a la carte breakfast and dinner that we had left a lot to be desired. Definite scope for improvement here.
There seems to be some problem with bicycle rentals here though. If you enquire at the hotel they tell you that all bicycles are punctured. ( I cant understand how this can be a steady state problem given that there are cycle repair shops less than a km away in Kamalapur village). And if you enquire at the village cycle shops they tell you that since the Hotel bought its own cycles they have stopped the rental business!
You will find some eager touts offering motorbike rentals at the hotel itself. Possibilities of some silly and annoying cartelization here.
If you're looking to rent bicycles, you will have to do it at the hampi bazaar area as a result.
Also the cell phone signal here is quite weak. You need to climb to the roof-top to be able to use the mobile.
All in all, an ok place to spend a couple of nights. Can easily step up a couple of levels to make travelers more comfortable

we visited hampi and a week before travel booked mayura hotel directly.they promised a non a/c room for 900.
when we reached there we were shocked to see the rooms considering it was one of the best rated property. However still we were tired from the journey we freshened up and went to complain about the room.we were told that the rooms given to us were for budget travellers and the other rooms were under renovation.surprisingly the budget rooms and standard non a/c rooms were at the same cost!!!!
we were told that the only option we have is to take the a/c deluxe room which looked inviting but at a cost of 1600.considering our plight the manager agreed to an extra bed in this room at no additional cost and also waived off the tax.
thereafter our stay was comfortable.
However food at the hotel wasnt good.....

Hampi tourists typically have four location options for their stay:
1. Town of Hospet - good hotels
2. "Guest houses" in Hampi village
3. Hotel Mayura Bhuvaneswari in Kamalapura
4. Lodges in Virupapur Gadde
Of course, it depends on one's taste and budget which location will be the most suitable. However, to most people, option 3 would work the best. Though Hospet has a few good hotels, it adds a 45-min commute time each way each day. Also, it lacks the mystic charm of Hampi. Arising in Hampi in the early morning to see the sunrise can be half of the reason of your trip itself.
The guest houses in Hampi village are merely houses that offer rooms on rent, and this may not be suitable for many people for various reasons.
Virupapur Gadde is popular with only a certain class of people. Also, it is on the opposite bank of the river Tungabhadra, and adds either a coracle ride or a 50-km drive to reach Hampi.
That makes Hotel Mayura Bhuvaneswari the most popular option for stay.
It is a very decent hotel with various price options starting from around Rs. 700/- (non-AC) to Rs. 5500/- (Suite). The intermediate options are Rs. 1320/- (semi-deluxe AC) and Rs. 1800/- (deluxe AC). We stayed in a semi-deluxe AC for 3 nights, but given another chance, would choose the deluxe AC, as it is more spacious, has a bigger bathroom, has better AC and TV, and is overall more comfortable.
The hotel is overall clean. We never had any complaints, other than discovering a spider in the bathroom one night, which the housekeeping person, when called, drove away immediately. This is nothing to be scared about - it is a common phenomenon in hotels in remote parts of India.
The hotel spreads across a huge land, and the building is about 250 m inside from the gate. There is a huge parking spot and the building also is huge in area. The restaurant offers decent food, with not-so-great service (typical of govt run hotels).
There were two incidents that we did not like:
1. The night we checked in, a sweeper in the hotel asked us whether he can wash our car the next morning. We said he could, largely from the point of view of helping him. However, the next morning, after he washed the car, he demanded Rs. 30/- for hios service. This is a very high price. FYI - I pay Rs. 150/- monthly to the person who washes my car at home every day.
2. The lady in the reception was absolutely not ready to help us with any tip/information. She was not even ready to give us directions, and insisted that we take the service of some guide. We were very well-read of this place and were absolutely not ready to take a guide.
Two things that we loved:
1. The day we checked in, we got very late - almost 11 PM because of a major traffic jam near Hospet that delayed us almost by 2 hours. We called them up and informed them of the delay, and Mr. Siddhesh kept the restaurant open just for us. Ultimately we completed dinner only at about 12 midnight.
2. The hotel booking method was very easy. We just had to call up and make a booking. They did not even ask for a token advance payment.

The hotel is located about 3 km from the main Hampi village and is actually more convenient than Hampi resorts in terms of proximity to a few major attractions, like Vitthala temple, Patta Bhirama temple, the archaeological museum, Malayavanta hill etc.
