We reached Dharamshala by car from Manali at 4:30 in the afternoon. It took us around 20 minutes to get to the hotel from the market area because not many people knew where it was.
The hotel is situated in the very far from the market on an isolated road with nothing but a small village furthur down the road. The hotel is at a height from the road. You either take the stairs or use a lift.
We were shown into our room, which was just above the reception area. The room was pretty simple. Bathroom was very basic. No tub. The hot water wasn't really hot, just not cold.
There is a balcony to every room. Even on the 1st floor we had a great view of the hills and the Dharamshala valley. But it ended there, there is no roof or covering to the balcony, so incase it rains there is no way to enjoy it outside. And the balcony was very unclean with only weather worn plastic chairs for seating.
The staff is friendly. People for room service doubled as the receptionist and bell boys. There isn't much to do at the hotel. The facilites include table tennis and carrom. There used to be a swimming pool which was filled in some years ago do to lack to maintainence (as said to me).
And as I said earlier, the location is lousy. There is no way to go any where without calling a taxi. It costs 100 INR to get to the marketplace and 200 INR to Mclaud Gunj.
The great part about the place was the food. The food was delicious, both Indian and continental. And the quantity was well worth the money.
All in all, I would have preferred to stay at a better hotel nearer to Mclaud Gunj. If you're looking for a really quiet place where you only want to relax, then it's well worth it. If you'relooking to move around, I hope you have vehicle at your disposal.
Enjoy your stay...!
