This complex is located towards end of Mcleod Ganj and if you have parked your car at the main car parking its a bit of a walk - first downhill and while coming back uphill, but this gives you an opportunity to view the small small shops lined on both sides of the road. There is a small car parking opposite the main complex gate where you can park for max 2 hours.
The complex is very serene, peaceful and holy with some good views of the valley. Visitors are not allowed to enter the main temple though you can have view from front and also click pictures of Buddha Statue.
A big turn off is the garbage dump right opposite to the temple complex main gate, wish this can be relocated.

The street leading to the temple complex is busy and lined with shops and stalls.
It was interesting to see the monks at worship and working outside with worshippers.
Views over the valley great

The complex includes a number of temples and is a training centre for Tibetan monks. The Dalai Lama gives public talks from here when in residence.
We saw the monks both during their break time and debating in pairs.
A really good guide could probably enhance the experience.

Home of the Dalai Lama, this is a functioning temple complex. It was very interesting to observe many of the resident monks go about their daily lives within the complex. The temple is very beautiful and one can only imagine what it would be like to be there when the Dalai Lama is in residence.

The temple complex architecturally is quite straight...though I had expected something grander , considering this is the seat of his holy Dalai Lama. But, spiritually you feel quite connected once you are there and quietly observe the proceedings therein. The central hall was full of senior monks practising the rituals and the courtyards outside, were dotted with younger monks ,involved in some kind of customary interaction........which was very interesting to simply observe.Personally I was very intrigued by this group discussion , with each speaker clapping in a very dramatic and rehearsed style....interesting! Turning the prayer wheels , was my first in a Buddhist temple. Worth a visit.
