I have been to hotel lake view dharmshala in september 2012 with my family (me, wife and my parents) and we had booked two rooms through a local contact person of ours. The hotel is actually very far from the main dharamshala and mcleodganj and situated on a hill. However, since we had taken a car from pathankot for 4- 5 days, distance was not much of issue for us. However, the approach road from the main road to the hotel, which is hardly 25 meters, is a steep height. Infact, out indigo driver, who was undoubtedly a master in his work, had to ask another local fellow whether the car goes up. the reply from the local driver was even interesting. he said " 4 me se 2 sawari utar do, gaadi chad jaegi (alight 2 out of 4 pessengers, car will climb up). However, this was more of insult to our expert driver and he without a second thought, pushed the accelerator and we were inside the hotel. many marks of tyres of various cars rubbing on the ramp was clearly visible. However, barring this hassle, which became habit of our driver thereafter, the hotel was good at that cost. The rooms were well situated and provided a brilliant view of the city and the valley. all rooms were valley facing and having a big balcony that can accommodate 2 - 3 chairs and 1 table. The soup and dinner we had in the hotel was very good. The chapatis cooked by them was well admired by all of us. However, when i asked in the night, there was no ice cream available with them and they were unable to source it too as the nearest market was very far. Further, the badsheet was not well cleaned and could be changed next morning only. However, as with my nature, unless i am paying exorbitant amount, a am ready to ignore small shortcomings and mistakes and do not make much of issue of it. We booked two rooms and stayed for 2 nights. the hotel is just next to the dull lake surrounded by beautiful (deodar?) trees. In front of the lake, there is street vendor who sells allo tikki and burgers and is highly recommended by us. There is a old temple of lord shiva in front of lake. Though the hotel does not provide space for drivers, since out driver was not keeping well on that day, considering our request the hotel provided sleeping space and some healthy food to our driver. This helped him recover better. few plus and few minus, It was overall a good experience with hotel lake view. Only recommendation is a expert driver to climb there....
PS - sorry for selecting january 2013 as travel date as this was the only nearest option available for a late reviewer like me.
