Situated upstairs along Temple Road, is this cozy little gem of a place, serving fresh, healthy and authentic Indian food.
Thalis are the signature dish of this restaurant, and there are several varieties to choose from, including an interesting Himachali thali. For those that don't know, an Indian thali consists of a round tray on which are placed at least 5 or more little bowls filled with an assortment of dishes, usually one dhal, one or two spiced cooked vegetable dishes, raita (salad), curd, steamed rice and accompanied by roti (flat bread). Sometimes a little sweet dish is also included. A great way to sample various dishes at once!
Clearly, much thought has gone into creating the menu at MoonPeak Thali. It is inspired by the seasonally available local market produce. Many of the dishes are prepared with an added little twist over standard Indian fare, making the taste fresh and exciting.
Other interesting items I tried include Tandoori paranthas (leavened Indian bread) stuffed in flavorful and unusual ways and served with a complimentary cup of chai. Perfect for a light lunch. There's also a small selection of Tibetan and Chinese dishes on the menu, though I didn't try these. Meat lovers and vegetarians alike won't go hungry, as there's plenty of dishes to choose from.
Ask about the chocolate cake - not always available - it is scrumptious.
The ambience at Moonpeak Thali is relaxed and pleasant, with tasteful Indian-style light decor, and soft background music - quite often Indian classical. For those that like a view, one can sit at the window table overlooking the entertaining bustle of Temple Road. Seating is also available upstairs on the sunny rooftop.
Newspapers and free wifi connection are available.
Quieter than the busy street-level restaurants. A place to refresh and unwind.
