Cloud End Villa - A Heritage Property
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 12, 2012

Hotel is bit difficult to find as its located between Dharamshala & Mcleodganj. "You gotta Kidding me...." thats what I said to myself when I first saw this hotel. Its completely isolated from main town. Rusty gate, old care taker, dense forest & "Purani Haweli" Kind of look. "This could be haunted house" I thought first. In-fact I thought I should return back. But I saw someone coming towards me. It was one of the member from hotel just came to help me out.

Once inside hotel I saw other travelers which immediately gave some comfort.
When we arrived at main dining hall it was pleasant surprise. It was absolutely beyond expectation. Everything maintain in this property is artistic & thoughtful.

Rooms as such don't have view of valley / mountains as its surrounded by big trees. We stayed in room no 7 which was above dining hall.

Rooms are completely made of wood which is neatly polished & looks very royal. Rooms itself are small but has very good quality. ( Its look like wooden flooring but its actually wood like carpet)

Toilet & bathrooms were small but clean with no leakage. Hot water available 24 hours. Complementary Soaps , towels provided were of good quality.

Now the Best Part : They provide excellent food. Its on order basis & you have to give order in advance. All food cooked is fresh. Food is served with excellent manners . Arrangement of plates / food was excellent. Must say have good royal touch.

Rooms are provided with good quality heaters with no extra charges.
Staff is very helpful & friendly . In-fact we were treated like family members.

Location which once looked haunted now started looking peaceful, quite & reviving. One can take a shortcut rout to Dharamshala from hotel which takes 10-15 mins walk down hill.
One can also climb to Mcleodganj which takes 20-30 mins up hill walk. cabs are available on call.

It was very pleasant & memorable stay at Clouds End Villa.

We were planning a trip to Dharamsala and Mcleodganj and were desperately looking for a place which was away from the maddening hustle bustle and was also good. Surfed the net and went through the reviews and finally settled on Clouds End Villa and to be honest it turned out to be the best decision that we could have made.
Right from the beginning when we initiated the booking via a phone call to the day we left the Hotel our experience was extremely good. We were orginally supposed to reach there on 1st of June but we requested Mr. Raghuveer Singh to prepone our booking by a day and eventhough we were giving him two days notice to do so,he accomadated us, very unlike the other touristy hotels in peak season in India.
When we reached there , we were simply taken aback by the beauty of the place. The property is huge and there are trees all around and the rooms and cottages are spread out enough to give you the privacy. The entire atmosphere in the hotel is serene and very homely. The staff goes out of the way to make you feel comfortable. Breakfast, Evening Tea and Dinner will be served by them outside your room on request and it is an amazing experience to hear the sounds of the forest and to see the fireflies fly by while you are enjoying your drinks and dinner.
The food is amazing and the chef digs out new recipes everyday and each one of them is a connosieours delight. On all the six days that we stayed there, he made different kind of Chicken Dish which was extremely tasty and was like home cooked food except that it just even tasted better than home. The last day as a special treat he offered us some delicious Mango Chutney and when my wife asked for the recipe he told her with a big smile on his face that he was not going to share the recipe with her till the next visit. The rooms are extremely clean, airy and well maintained and the toilets are also modern and hygenic. There are antiques which adorn every room and the entire hotel is very classy, though in a heritage kind of way and not in glass and steel. The housekeeping staff is very efficient and the grounds and gardens are also well maintained. Linen is clean and is changed every day.
I was fortunate enought to be invited by the owner Raja Aditya Katoch for drinks in the evening one day to his wonderful cottage and it wasa thorougly enjoyable evening, listening to him about Kangra and how he had developed Clouds End Villa.
My kids had a wonderful time exploring the vast , terraced property and playing with Sam the little dog who adds more charm to the place as he is always running around the gardens.
I could go on and on with the praises about the hotel but in a nutshell i would recommend this hotel to everyone who wants to stay in a neat, classy and a peaceful hotel and who wants to experience the serenity of nature which fills ones soul with peace.
Thank you Raja Aditya Katoch, Mr. Raghuveer Singh, Chef Madan Singh, Megh Singh, Subhash and Raju for taking care of us and for giving us a truly memorable holiday which shall make us come back again and again.

A friend and I planned to stay here for one night but ended up staying for three. The staff at Cloud End Villa are EXCELLENT. They are extremely kind, accommodating, and helpful. The hotel itself is a complex of several cottages on a private and scenic property. The first room we stayed made us feel like royalty in a spacious loft room decorated in warm wood walls and columns. Unfortunately, the monkeys refused to let us sleep in and were jumping on the metal room at 7am. The staff graciously moved us to another cottage with two rooms and a shared living room. The marble bathrooms are clean and well-stocked with plenty of hot water. The rooms were cold but staff brought us space heaters. The food for breakfast and lunch was delicious, fresh and better than anything we ate in town. The location is a bit remote, but a quick 10-15 minute taxi ride will get you to McLeod Ganj where all the action is or Dharamasala for local flavor. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone traveling to the area, it's way better than any tourist trap hotel elsewhere.

We had gone to Clouds End Villa - a heritage property in Dharamsala in the first week of November with friends to break away from the fast life of Mumbai..The hotel did not disappoint with its lovely location cut off from the rest of the world- high in the woods and excellent service. We were met and warmly greeted by Mr Katoch -head of the Katoch dynasty of Kangra who own this hotel.Would recommend this place to anyone who needs a break from the hectic and stressful pace of big cities in India..take a book and read in the hills in the company of birds and fresh air.
