Loved this little lodge! Not for the food (although good) or drinks (house wines included) or the older man playing music in the evenings. But sometimes, this place has an even better attraction - one of the gorilla troops sometimes passes very close by...

Reaching Gorilla Forest Camp is like Dorothy reaching Emerald City after a long trip. The road into Bwindi is terribly bumpy, dusty, and downright uncomfortable but once you get to Gorilla Forest Camp all is forgotten.

Although it is a hike up to your tent, the accomodations are wonderful and spacious. The footed bathtub surrounded by candles is especially nice. The food is very good and plentiful and the housekeeping service is excellent. They will do your laundry (included in the price) and have it back for you in a few hours or the next day. They will also clean your hiking boots so you don't go home filthy.

But the best part is, you can get a massage in your tent and I have to say it was one of the best massages I have ever had and it only cost $30 US for 1 hour. Can't beat that!

Camp is set in the Bwindi Forest.
It is a long drive on a dirt road into the reserve, and when you arrive you need to hike up a quite a few steps to get to the camp. Comical signs along the way " nearly there" and " you made it" make you doubt whether you will actually have enough energy for the gorilla treks never mind the steps up.But I put that down to sitting for 5 hours on the bumpiest drive in!
Beautiful main lodge, small reception curio shop. All camera charging and cell phone charging is done in the curio shop.
Staff are very friendly , we were greeted by the asst gm Ian, who was a pleasure. Charity and Kuli are very friendly bar staff.
The rooms are lovely, two double beds, it is somewhat dark, but I seemed to experience that everywhere in Uganda that was generator run.
Bathrooms are great, open and airy and plenty hot water- which can also be a luxury .The hairddryer is in the bathroom but ask before you use it, it is battery run. Ladies if you have thick hair forget it- not enough power!!
We had the greatest housekeeper, Michael, he was always there after every hike to take away any soiled clothes.
Meals are good, soup, starter mains ( one veg option available) and dessert( desserts- okay not great)
After dinner, arrangements are made for the next morning, wake up call with hot beverage and what you would like in your lunch box for the gorilla trek.
Gorilla trekking is amazing!!! Definately a degree of fitness is required. Worthwhile to take a porter, min fee of 10usd ea. They not only carry your backpack but will look after it while you go and view gorillas.(They stay some 10m behind and wait)They are also available to push, pull and carry you if need be!!!
worthwhile if your trek finishes early to do a village tour and see the traditional healer, how to make ugandan waragi and banana wine also seeing the pygmys.I was also told the waterfall walk is beautiful.
Everything was great, I couldnt fault any part of my stay, would definately reccommend to all my family and friends and would save up to go again!!!

This is a wonderful place to stay when trekking gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The tents have lovely real bathtubs, which is a true joy after a hard day of gorilla trekking. The food is very good, including nice box lunches for treks. They have an amazing show cleaning service, so when you return covered in mud, they will do your laundry and make your shoes look better than when you got them new. Overall the service is superb at this lodge. The location is gorgeous. Don't be daunted by the 91 steps leading up to the lodge; it is worth the climb! Drinks and laundry are included in the lodge price, along with meals. Security is very good. Do not hesitate to stay here!

The Gorilla Forest Camp is a fantastic place to stay when trekking gorillas in the Impenetrable Forest. The permanent tents are huge, with two double beds, each with beautiful wood carved headboards. Besides a large shower, there is a full size bathtub surrounded by candles. The service and food were outstanding, and the setting was perfect. You'll see monkeys from your tent, and maybe even gorillas if you are really lucky!
I would request a tent other than Hornbill, however. It is closest to the dining lodge, and loud early in the morning and late in the evening.

Gorilla Forest Camp's tents are large and comfortable. Each tent is very private, with an outside deck. Inside there are hardwood floors, lots of room, 2 double beds (and the hot water bottle placed in bed each night is a real treat). Back half of tent opens to full bathroom and a separate room with your tub with a view.
Service is impeccable. From meeting you on arrival with a hot towel and drink to the absolutely wonderful meals served during every dining experience. Clothes were washed (for free) and hiking boots cleaned until you thought they were brand new. The staff is instantly ready to anticipate and grant your every wish.
The trekking can be long and strenuous (much more so than in Rwanda, we thought)...so to come back to a cold drink and snacks awaiting you was a real treat. The nightly campfire was a great way to meet other guests. It's definitely the best spot in Bwindi.
And, the gorilla trekking a once-in-a-lifetime, not-to-be-missed thrill! If you've ever thought of going...do it.
