We stayed at Mahogany Springs while we were doing gorilla trekking in Uganda. It was delightful! Each staff member tended to our every need in the friendliest and most solicitous manner. One night we were treated to a dinner in the garden next to a roaring bonfire! I can not say enough good things about this lovely hotel!

We travelled from Entebbe with Aerolink, it was a very pleasant flight (the landscape is so beautiful). We landed near Savanna resort where we were welcomed at the foot of the plane by Martin who drove us to Mahogany Springs (Martin was our driver for the rest of the journey).
Mahogany Springs lodge is a wonderful place just outside the park (a few minutes away from the Buhoma gate). The landscape is really magnificent and the banana-thatched rondavels are very nice, and spacious, with their balconies and their tremendous view. Everybody at Mahogany is very nice and very thoughtful. The food is good and varied (thanks to Abraham and Gad, and to the chief cook), the evening aperitif in front of the beautiful Mahogany tree is a must.
We spend four nights at Mahogany. The first day we visited the Rushegura gorilla family which was easy to find within one hour. The second day we visited the Habinyanja gorilla family which we founded after a 2 hours track (plus 50 minutes drive). The Rushegura family live near the park entry in open forest, the Habinyanja family live farther in a denser part of the forest . The two environments are different and the two tracks was equally interesting. The gorilla tracking was never exhausting thanks to our two porters.
The third day, we did a guided birdwatching walk in the primary Forest, with Fred the ornithologist. It was simply magic to be in this 25000 years old forest.

I definitively recommend to stay at least 3 nights and even 4 nights to really enjoy the Mahogany lodge, the gorillas, the forest and the nice people.

Beautiful room and property.. Staff is very accomodating.. Hot towels and juice upon arrival was a wonderful touch.. As was the boot cleaning after the gorilla trek. Wifi is available in the main dining area.. Rooms have patios .. You can just sit and admire the mountain views and the variety of birds abd butterflies that come to visit.
Shower gel and shampoo are provided. Security accompanies you to your room after dinner.
Two nitpicks i mention only because it is a 5 star.. Turn down service at night with the water bottle in the bed is great.. But a bathroom freshening up in the evening with clean towels and emptying the garbage cans would have been a nice touch... Also, screened windows so we could open them.
Other than that, i recommend.

We stayed at the Mahogany Springs for two nights in January 2014 when we went to trek the gorillas. We had stayed at two other nice lodges in Uganda but this was the highlight of our trip there. The lodge and cottages have fabulous views of the river valley and the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Upon arrival the lodge staff told us the gorillas had visited the lodge the day before (of course!) which would have been wonderful, but the lodge was incredible in its own right. The rooms were very comfortable and well appointed with balconies to enjoy the views. The lodge itself had the same drop dead gorgeous views of the valley and we chose to dine on the veranda both nights and it was a spectacular way to enjoy the evenings. All that being said, the staff makes this lodge!! They saw to our every need or wish and did it all with sincere smiles and friendship. It was like being with friends for the time we spent there. The food was great and we had a ball talking to everyone who served us. It could not have been a better stay (unless the gorillas visited again - but we spent a nice day on the mountain with them). We were all very sad to leave.

We did enjoy our drive from Kihihi airfield, but after two hours of 'Africa Massage' we were more than delighted when Jackson turned the van into our new home for the next 3 days. Mahogany Springs looked like a calm, quiet, beautiful & luxurious oasis. It did not disappoint! After being greeted with fresh wet towels to erase the dust of our trip & freshly squeezed passion fruit juice, we were escorted to our Presidential Chalet which certainly lived up to its name. We enjoyed a large living room and two large bedrooms, each with its own ensuite! Our private balcony overlooked the spacious grounds, a rippling stream, & lush fields in the distance. Such luxury! Back at the main lodge we enjoyed fine dining with wonderful food prepared with fresh produce from the gardens by a very talented chef. We especially enjoyed our drinks from the bar enjoyed either out on the open porch or around the wood fire in the lounge. Everyone was so friendly and kind! If we were out on the porch, freshly popped popcorn would appear, delivered with a big smile by one of our favourite servers! When we went on our gorilla treks, lunch was packed for us & our walking sticks tucked safely into our hands! Our every need was anticipated. We were treated like royalty for our entire stay. The beds were comfy, our hot water bottles each night & mossy nets were appreciated. The showers were lovely & the toiletries useful. We used the free wifi in the main lodge & we plugged in our devices to recharge! We realized how difficult it must be to keep such high standards of cleanliness, service, & luxury in such a remote location. We were very grateful to have such a caring, dedicated staff to look after us for our stay at this very lovely location.

Room Tip: This is a small lodge & all of the 'pods' were lovely.

I stayed at Mahogany Springs for two nights when visiting to track Gorillas. Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly and welcoming staff and given a delicious and refreshing fruit juice. Which we enjoyed in the beautiful main room which has the most magnificent views across Bwindi national park and all down the valley.

After our refreshments we were shown to our Banda which was built into the hillside and enjoyed the same awe inspiring, movie set views across the park with a decked balcony. The bedroom was clean and beautifully decorated with windows all across the front wall and the bathroom was equally impressive.

We were also fortunate enough to enjoy an impressive thunderstorm that we watched from the covered balcony with a gin and tonic and blankets.

The staff were very knowledgable about the local area and wildlife. The food was delicious and varied. I highly recommend the fish.

This really is a totally idyllic place to stay and I would love to go back and spend a longer period of time there.

I would also highly recommend the gorilla tracking, it was a fantastic experience and to my relief - I did not see any snakes or spiders!

I was recommended Mahogany Springs by a friend and the place did not disappoint. Set in incredible surroundings, with some of the most attentive staff and best service I have encountered in Africa we fell in love with the lodge. The food is great and the staff make sure you are ready for your Gorilla tracking with all sorts of help and advice. Its a short walk to the Wildlife office from where the treks begin and other local attractions such as the Batwa village and local craft shops. Cannot wait to return!
