4 of us traveled to Bwindi to see the Gorilla's, staying 3 nights at Mahogany Springs.
We flew into Khihi on Aerolink, rather then the 9 hours drive from Entebbe, on the famous African roads, for the cost of the flight of only $450 per person return, was very well worth the additional money, as well as savings us 2 days in travelling!!! Point here for anyone doing this, make sure you arrange with your lodge to pick you up, as the airstrip is a good 50 mins drive away from Bwindi! and 50mins is all I could handle of these roads, let alone 9 - 10 hours!
I completely agree with what everyone else has said. The photo's really don't do this place justice. They really don't show how detailed the whole lodge is. Most importantly the feeling of complete calm and tranquility you get when you walk in.
The Banana roofs in all the individual chalets and main lodge is incredible to see. The staff do everything possible they can, to make your stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. All chalets are quiet and separate from each other, so you have an awesome amount of privacy. All have their own balconies.
We looked at a lot of lodges before making our decision on where to stay. Right from the most expensive down to the cheapest, and for value for money, comfort and service you really can't go pass Mahogany Springs.
The staff are exceptional!!! the truly are amazing, and no task is ever to small for them. Other lodges advertise that they will clean your shoes every night.. Mahogany don't need to sell this point on the internet, they let clients like myself tell you this! Every night Moses came to our room, took our very, very dirty shoes, and returned them clean with our morning wake up call and most importantly coffee!
The way the lodge has blended into the hill side, and has taken responsibility for making gardens and producing its own food, so quality can be guaranteed is amazing.. My partner and I took a walk around the many vegies gardens with the gardener and were truly amazed at what he was growing and planting so his chef could have a selection of what ever he wanted.
The location is great, its only a short walk into a near by Village.. going to the Orphanage there is a must for anyone in the area. Buy from the local shops, they really do need the money to survive there.
Also only a short drive (all lodges take you anyway) to the starting point of the Gorilla's.
What was the thing that amazed us the most, is how friendly the people are in this area of Uganda, everywhere we went people were smiling and waving.. The children always saying hello..
This sort of welcome, to a country that is only 15yrs out of Civil war, and the lodge, made this part of our trip so special! Our favorite part of Africa!
