Definitely not a 5 star hotel,Although they charge you 5 star prices, I would rate it 3 stars
no orientation on arrival, constantly had to request basic items in the room, besides the cleaning staff and golf cart drivers, everyone else at this establishment makes one feel as if they doing you a favour.
cheap linen (no pillow menu which is expected in 5 star) , a noisy bar fridge that kept us up all night
no communication between staff
very bad management even after having complained after the first morning, promises were made and then excuses for not complying.
no Wifi! even though it advertises as such
they have replaced the fridge with a bigger fridge which cannot fit into the bar cupboard...aesthetically terrible
beautiful vistas but everything else leaves a lot to be desired for
seems they focussing more on conferences
will not recommend this place

What a difference ten years can make. A decade ago, my wife and I were regulars at the Mount Grace and even spent the first night of our honeymoon there.

Yesterday's experience left a LOT to be desired. The natural setting is still as gorgeous as ever and most of the staff were friendly. But the general areas seem dirty, run down, have mismatched decor and in need of some serious TLC.

Disappointment 1- a terrible standard room 103, I can not believe it's actually sold as a room in the hotel. We had no option to upgrade to luxury room 208 which was very nice and clean with a great view.

Disappointment 2- was the spa. Dirty toilets, dirty change rooms, dirty steam room, tatty coffee table books, poor food and a dirty & cobwebbed flotation pool.

Disappointment 3- Dinner at Twist Restaurant very very ordinary actually it bordered on bad.

Disappointment 4- attitude of one of the staff members who said "Why are you so impatient?" After waiting for more than half an hour to get acknowledged for service.

Disappointment 5- it is highly unlikely that we will ever return again.

Dear Kaya-ZA

Thank you for taking the time and effort to provide us with such detailed feedback. It is greatly appreciated.

Firstly, I would like to sincerely apologise that we have not been able to live up to your expectation by providing you with the five star experience that we are known for.

Our rooms vary in position and are scattered over the entire property, each offering different views over the surrounding valley and hills. We regret to hear that your initial room was not providing you with the views you were looking forward to and we will most definitely take this into account when staying with us in future.

As for the spa experience, I have addressed your comments with the spa manager who has recently joined the TEAM. She will ensure that corrective measures are put into place and that a high standard is consistently maintained at the spa.

Once again, our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused and we hope to have the privilege of welcoming you back in the near future and restoring your confidence in our service levels and facilities offered.

Yours in Hospitality,

If you planning to visit the hotel please leave your valuables at home and guard your possesions like how you would when you are at joburg city centre. I was so dissapointed i cancelled my spa treatments and the balance of my stay.

On the 31st of Dec 2014 I visited the hotel to welcome the new year. I lost my cell phone while dining at the hotels restaurant outside area.
When I reported the incident, head of security basically told me there is nothing they can do. I should'nt have placed it on the table. So much for assuming safety in a highly recommended establishment.

I also thought the hotel is overated for the price you pay. The gardens are nice but the food and rooms are average. The carpets looked worn in the lux room, they should rather put tiles.

Zakithi Khumalo

Room Tip: A garden room which is entry level is better. I saw no benefit of being upgraded to the lux room.

We booked into Mount Grace for our anniversary weekend and enjoyed every minute of it!
The positives:
The staff were very gracious and friendly from the moment we checked in, all going out of their way to make our stay comfortable. There was a slight problem with being allocated a booked room when we checked in but it was promptly rectified and we received a complimentary fruit platter from the management team with an apology for the inconvenience. A special thank you Patience, Patricia, Muzi and the rest of the awesome staff at Mount Grace.

Although the establishment is large and fully booked, it is spaced out and as such you do not see many guests which adds to the tranquility of the place. Besides the availability of spa for bookings, guests have access to two pools in the main hotel area, one of which is heated.
The spa area also contains a heated pool, steam pool and jacuzzi, all of which are free to use and open until 8pm so make sure you take your bathers! There is also a gym which opens at 6am :)
The breakfast on offer was delicious and we were even spoilt with fresh waffles!

The negatives:
The bed was quite uncomfortable being two joined beds. One end of the bed was slanted which was annoying. (Room 124).
The spa prices are very expensive compared to many other 5* spas that I have been to.
The dinner prices are also expensive and not at all value for money.

In years gone by the Sunday lunches at Mount grace were legendary with sumptuous food and a wide variety not usually found on a buffet.
Alas it seems those days are gone forever. The beautiful surrounds are still there as are the premium prices, but the food and service no longer exist.

The food fare is of very low grade with no care or pride taken in their offering. Today they offer a very basic buffet with plain food that looks like it was congealed. The flies on the meat which went unnoticed by the serving staff didn't do much for my appetite. The starters are extremely basic and look and taste like they've come out of a can. The desserts are extremely sweet to the point where they are inedible.
I wouldn't pay R 60 for this quality of buffet never mind the R 200 odd they charge.
The service was slow but bearable with mistakes that point to lack of training or a lack of care for the organisation they work for. The well polished service machine of years gone by seems well and truly rusted.

The hotel has a general feel of being past its sell by date with obvious signs of decay which didn't exist a few years ago. It seems to me that their focus has shifted to groups and conferences with a preference fo quantity over quality.
The staff were courteous but not as attentive as they used to be.

For me, it's lost its charm. It's no longer the magical cozy place it used to be. In this day and age when we have so many choices there's no longer any compelling reason to visit.

It is very disappointed to hear that we have been unable to meet your expectations, especially considering the fact that you have visited us in the past. What a great experience!

The facility is immaculate. Staff and management bent over backwards for us

We keep strictly kosher and brought our own food and wine. Solly reassured us that they have many Kosher and Halaal clients. He knew exactly  how to manage our food. He made sure our food was double wrapped before going into the oven to be heated. Clearly they know what they doing which was a pleasant surprise. The waiters were friendly and attentive.

The environment is super relaxing and the Staff at the spa made us feel so welcome. Its seems that it truly was their pleasure to accommodate us. The heated pools are great specially the flotation pool.

This had definitely set a precedent for our future anniversaries.

I'd deduct half a point as the bedside lamps and the Aircon weren't working.
