Upon arriving, this tranquil escape provided a fantastic venue for a work conference. Although the estate is vast, getting around was of no hassle at all as there was always a staff member with a golf Cary ready to serve my every need, often ordering their colleagues to vacate the cart to accommodate my need.

The restaurant and Buffet are world class and easily that of a 5 star resort. Although the bar is a little pricey, this was to be expected as the lodge is extravagant in many ways.

I greatly enjoyed my time at the Spa, and the Salt Water Float Pool is of a different calibre.

With friendly staff, accommodating management and leaving me and my colleagues wanting for nothing, this is truly a wonderful escape from the bustle of the work week.

I highly recommend Mount Grace to anyone wanting a relaxing, peppered weekend away....

Room Tip: Any villa or room 199.

We booked in on a Sunday and stayed two nights. Bliss! Out of season, very quiet. We arrived at lunchtime (website says that luggage can put in storage and you can enjoy all facilities until room is ready) but were shown to our Luxury room immediately upon our arrival. Beautiful, large room with bar and Netspresso machine.
Rooms depend on price. Superior Rooms are perfect in the warmer months where excellent cold and warm pools are a few steps away. However this is winter! The Luxury Room is on top of a hill, blissfully quiet and with (hot and private ) plunge pool. Luxury rooms also have the advantage of being on the hill-top with great views and a one minute walk to the Spa, which has a large and enclosed heated salt-water pool and outdoor warm and cold water pools plus lounge with all-day refreshments at the disposal of any guest.
We had breakfast on both days (included in the deal), good, plentiful and well attended by the staff. At all levels the staff were very pleasant, helpful and accommodating. Not cheap but we wanted a bit of spoiling and we got it.Thoroughly recommended.

My wife and I went here for two nights as part of our honeymoon.
The hotel staff service is outstanding. They really make every effort to make your stay a good one.
Secondly, the spa and swimming pools are lovely, although at no time during our stay did the famed 'salt flotation pool' work, although a few times they did try to fix this.
The hotel food was quite a mixed affair. The buffet breakfasts were fantastic. However, on our one night when we ate at the expensive a la carte restaurant, the portions were disappointingly small and the food was not particularly tasty for the prices charged. Fortunately our waiter very kindly allowed us to have some of the buffet dessert to make up for the tiny portions of the main course. I would suggest that in future the a la carte restaurant rather offer a set menu with one or two choices for starters and mains, and make sure that these are very well-prepared and sufficiently nourishing.

The room was somewhat below expectations, in fact probably the biggest disappointment of the stay. Our room was one (expensive) level up from the basic room. Internally the room was spacious, with a small dining area, lounge-and-bedroom, and large dressing room and bathroom. However there wasn't a lot of natural light, and our view out of the room was onto bushes, and certainly not the magaliesberg panorama I might have hoped for.

To me this is a lovely set of hotel grounds, with good staff, an overpriced restaurant, and very disappointing views from the rooms for the high prices charged per night. Perhaps they have expanded the number of rooms too quickly and without enough careful consideration of what the guest experience would be like in these rooms.

Room Tip: I actually didn't see many rooms that really offer an outstanding panorama - quite surprising wh...

Dear "Duncantrips",

On behalf of the entire team at the Mount Grace Country House and Spa, we would like to thank you for your TripAdvisor review. Even though we are happy to hear you enjoyed the service provided by staff and some of the facilities on offer, we regret to hear your comments on the disappointing views from your room as well as your dining experience.

As noted by your kind self, the rooms at the Mount Grace vary in position and are scattered over the entire mountain side, with some rooms offering better views over the surrounding valley and hills. We regret to hear that your room was not providing you with the views you were looking forward to and we will most definitely take this into account when staying with us in future.

Your comments on the portion size of some of the items on our a la carte menu will be discussed with the Executive Chef and his team. Clearly, its our aim to provide a value for money restaurant experience that exceeds expectations. Receiving detailed feedback from our guests on their experiences is therefore vital in order to further improve and / or fine tune our restaurant offering.

Again, we apologise for any inconvenience this has caused and we sincerely hope that these disappointments will not deter you from visiting us again in the future.

Yours sincerely,

Nelson Rodrigues - General manager

What was supposed to be a romantic de-stressing escape turned out to be a more exhausting & unhappy weekend?

Firstly nowhere is it stipulated the check-in time but only the check-out (neither on website or confirmation booking), & general assumption is with most hotels its 14h00 - so upon arriving at 14h00 we were told check-in is only at 15h00 which we found very cheeky & were told to go walk around or have lunch (which we had already ....hello it was 14h00??) & they would call us when the room is ready. So if check out is at 11am, it takes them 4hours to clean rooms??

The reception, bar & lounge areas are lovely and was bustling with other guest who obviously also assumed check-in was a 14h00. The spa was fully booked which we could understand as we never booked. Gardens are well kept & well set out, our surprise were the units with thatch as nowhere in website or images of rooms on website was thatch units mentioned. We had booked a superior room & were provided with a garden superior thatch unit (would have been nice to have known as my husband has allergies). The room was tastefully decorated but not the value of the amount of money we paid for .... Probably a 3star if that. The nesspresso coffee machine & under floor heating in bathroom were a nice touch, AC noisy but kept room warm on this cold winter day (but one cannot sleep with it on).

Dinner at the Rambling Vine Restaurant was superb & food was really good - wine list was worthy but pricy & we were grateful for the corkage fee of which we brought a oldish French wine from our cellar and it went down a real treat with the great food. Desert was plentiful & bit bland.

The night sleep was awful, a comfy bed but we had a group booking accross our unit who were parting & nosily till early hours of the morning..... ??? Breakfast at the Twist was average could do with a bit of creativity on the breakfast buffet & waitering staff need some serious training.

Overall, not a great weekend & overly priced!

To celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary my husband and I decided that we needed a long overdue break from the kids. Having celebrated with them the weekend before, we decided to spend uninterrupted quality time with each other.
Mount Grace was always an appealing choice from what I had seen depicted on the net, and we did not regret this choice at all. From the moment you arrive you are aware of the serene, tranquil and escapist nature of the place. High up in the mountains, far removed from the hustle and bustle of city life you get the supreme feeling that you were meant to be there and you may not want to leave.
Every staff member we came across, from the golf cart drivers to the waiters at the restaurants and the spa staff, were well trained, professional and highly attentive. We booked a luxury room and were pleasantly surprised when we were allocated a luxury room with a private plunge pool. The room was clean and spacious with a little dining area, small lounge and walk-in dressing area. The bathroom was fitted with a bath tub, double sinks, big walk-in shower and under floor heating, perfect for a cold winter’s day. The Nespresso machine in every room is a wonderful touch.
For dinner we ate at the Rambling Vine restaurant. Intimate, warm and luxurious it is a dining experience of note. Definitely worth a visit, the professional and informed staff perfectly complements the imaginative, carefully constructed, delightful dishes.
Breakfast was at the Twist restaurant. A typical breakfast buffet to please all tastes. An interesting “twist” was the Bloody Mary station for that hangover cure, the morning after the night before :-)
The spa surpassed expectations. The therapists and reception staff were well-trained and helpful. The therapists were brilliant and completely tuned in to what you preferred. The heated outdoor Jacuzzi and Flotation pool are recommended to complete your spa experience.
Thank you to all at Mount Grace for a truly special and unforgettable escape. Rest assured that you have set the bar high and we will definitely be back!

We had a really lovely stay last weekend at Mount Grace, although I found our room (and the spa treatments) overpriced. The Sunday lunch was nice but predictable, breakfast was better (delicious! apart from very weak tea). The Nespresso machines in the rooms are a nice touch. Room service was terribly slow (an hour for a toasted sandwich which arrived burnt and dry). Even though we arrived at the spa 30 minutes ahead of our appointment time we were told there was no time to go in to the steam room. The massages (90 minute hot stone) were nice but nothing worth writing home about.

All in all it IS a lovely place but I think they need to up their game a bit if they continue to charge such high prices. It's a bit 'meh' for the thousands we paid.

Room Tip: Don't expect a 'superior' room to be superior.
