“Could do with some TLC”

Van Gaalen Kaasmakerij

We popped in here since we were in the area, but were somewhat disappointed. The inside of the building lacks natural light and the furniture and fixtures were tired and dated. We tasted some cheeses, which were good. There is a large selection of imported (Dutch) goodies on sale. The kids play equipment could do with some work (old tractor alongside jungle gym had a rusty seat, which in my opinion is pretty dangerous). The bathrooms were in quite a state - dirty, no working soap dispenser. The location is superb, with stunning views, but you need more to get me to go back.

travelled out over 100kms for lunch, dissapointing when I saw the menu it was so limiting.. and overpriced in my opinion. Service was slow.
the location is magnificient, surrounded by mountains. bought some cheese and chutney from the shop, good value and tasty.

Obviously the focus has moved away from the cheese to other things! Service bad and everything looks tired.

Used to pop in often but no more!

Very sad!!

Had heard great things about Van Gaalens so stopped for lunch during a Magalies Meander. Sadly, left feeling a little disappointed. However, they appeared to be having power issues so perhaps they need another visit. Great mountain bike trails I believe!!

It is always nice when you have had a good experience at a place and you can't wait to take your friends there. Well, doing that at Van Gaalen Kaasmakerij was clearly not such a good idea, what an embarrassment. In Sept 2012 we had a wonderful visit to van Gaalen. On Youth Day we decided to take a good friend with us to do a cheese tasting & purchase and enjoy good coffee on the terrace. Nothing was the same, the cheese tasting was dreadful, the lady made us feel like such a nuisance that our guest actually felt too embarrased to ask which cheese to taste.
Then the long awaiting coffee, after 100km on our Harley's on such a crisp winters morning we were really looking forward to some lovely freshly brewed, hot coffee. Our coffee was brought more than 20 minutes after we ordered it by one of the cleaners, our waiter disappeared. One cup had to be replaced as all the coffee was shaken out of te cup. Needless to say the coffee was luke to cold. It took just as long to get the bill and to pay. Nice was our surprise when we arrived home to find the expensive cheese was past it's sell-by date and not edible. Van Gaalen won't see me again, and I will ensure to spread the review.
