Owner description: The sheltered inlet of Boulders Beach is located in the Cape peninsula near Simon's Town. Here exists a protected colony of African penguins which can be viewed in their natural habitat via wooden walkways. There is also an excellent beach for swimming nearby.

I am not a great beach person! I am not fond of crowds, I don't like swimming in the sea, and am not on friendly terms with the summer sun! However, Boulder's Beach manages to lure me there! It can be a bit crowded in season, but the delightful squeals of children, the crystal clear waters and the impressive boulders make it worth while.
The penguin colony is, in my opinion, a very humbling experience. To be able to see first hand, the sight of Africa's penguins waddling along the rocks, hovering over nests or curiously looking back at humans is a privilege we ought never take for granted.
The entry fee is worth it, because not only are the toilet facilities kept clean, it contributes to the noble goal of keeping the jackass species of penguins alive and breeding. For a non-beach fan to rave about a beach, you can be sure this one is exceptional and special!

Great small beach. If you go during high tide you may see more penguins. During low tide there may be less, but you have the chance to climb/swim around the boulders and find a small piece of beach just for yourselve. R55 to get in, but absolutely worth it. There are bathrooms as well, but no showers. Don't sit on the stairs because that's were the penguins go to their nests. Bring a hat during high season and when it's hot, not much in shaded area.

Fantastic spot to take the little ones to. Plus there are penguins for them to see. Get there early and check the high and low tide times before you head out for the day. You don't want to get caught by the waves coming in while having to pack up kids and picnic baskets. There's an entry fee per person... totally worth it though.

Lovely place to get up close to penguins - they were nesting when we were there and it was cool to see the Mom and Dad penguins switch off egg sitting responsibility all the while squawking at each other. After viewing from the boardwalk, keep walking past the initial pay station and go to the beach itself, in your swimsuit, and see the penguins swim and waddle by you!
