Bosky Dell
Reviewed July 28, 2012

Bosky Dell needs to be added to Trip Advisor's Hidden Gem list! What a fabulous place in one of the most beautiful parts of the Cape Peninsula. For those of us who can't afford to have our own holiday house there, it offers a lovely taste of what it would be like.....
As mentioned in previous reviews, it's not fancy at all, BUT it makes up for it by being absolutely charming, spotlessly clean and with a feel of a bygone era. Making it more luxurious would detract from its simplicity and appeal (it's not for those wanting all the mod cons).
We stayed in the A Cottage which has lovely views from the protected balcony as do the Main House, the Stables and the Coach House. It was also wonderful to have a roaring fire on a cold rainy Cape winter's night. When the sun did break through we enjoyed lazing in the lovely sunroom.
Contrary to Mabros' comments below, we thought the prices very reasonable considering the location - for both locals and (especially) overseas visitors. And we've stayed in many fancier places where a separate shower is nothing more than a pathetic trickle - this one at least had fabulous pressure!
Other than the choice of beaches and walking paths next to the sea, Simon's Town, with its quaint shops, pubs and restaurants is an attraction itself. It's a brisk 15 minutes walk away. What a lovely village feel with plenty of friendly locals. Having previously always ended up at The Meeting Place, we had planned to eat in a different restaurant for each meal and tried Pescado on Friday night which we thoroughly enjoyed (although the service isn't the greatest).
We ended up having lunch, supper and breakfast at KISS, a foodie place - yet another Hidden Gem! We loved the owners, Dan and Claire, the food, the decor, the vibe AND the prices!!!
We kept on wondering to ourselves why we feel so compelled to visit Europe when we have such fabulous places on our doorstep. We're planning to go back to experience Bosky Dell at least once in every season - can't wait!

This cluster of self catering accommodation is located in a wonderful position overlooking Boulders Beach, about 45 mins drive south of Cape Town. We based ourselves at Bosky Dell for six nights and wished we'd stayed longer. It was a great location for exploring the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and the fabulous beaches along the Atlantic Coast such as Scarborough, Kommetjie, Noordhoek, Hout Bay (via the spectacular Chapman's Peak), Llandudno and Camps Bay as well as nearby Simon's Town, Fish Hoek and Kalk Bay along False Bay. We also really enjoyed hanging out at Bosky Dell, just relaxing on the magnificent verandah, reading and enjoying the views which are to die for!
We stayed at the Main House, which is charming - it's not luxury or glitzy but it's very peaceful and you can't beat the views from most of the rooms.
There is a lovely ocean view restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner a 5 min stroll from Bosky Dell and a grocery store open from 7am - 10pm a 5 min drive away, with a wider choice of shops in Simon's Town and a large supermarket a 15 mins drive away at Fish Hoek.
Bosky Del is managed by two sisters, Ilse & Roz, who are really helpful. They provided us with lots of useful local information and nothing seemed to be too much trouble.
It was really special in the morning's to wander down the path to Boulder's Beach (45 rand per day entrance without a Wild Card) and have a swim with the penguins before the day trippers arrived. There are other free beaches you can walk to along the boardwalk which is just at the bottom of the path in front of Bosky Dell.
I would really recommend Bosky Dell to anyone looking for a well positioned peaceful spot to relax and enjoy nature and the magnificent vista's.

This is an amazing house in Simonstown. Closer to Boulders you will not get! A wonderful old house with an amazing front stoep and views to lap up! We were 11 and took the main house and the coach house, as the upstairs of the main house was booked.
The Coach House has it's own little front stoep and the views from the bedroom are great - but the stairs are steep! Be warned!
We moved the dining table to the front stoep and everything happened from there! We were blessed with amazing weather and walked down and set up on Boulders Beach everyday! You will have to pay for Boulders Beach, unless you have a wild card, and get there early as it gets packed and the tide comes right up and they close the beach. So set up early and right at the back!
The house has basic amenities - a dishwasher would have been a much needed extra with 11 of us!
It is an old family holiday home - nothing ritzy and glitzy but perfect for families and beach holidays.
We will definately come back here!

Room Tip: Be downstairs in the main house. The Coach house is also quaint and perfect for 2.

We recently stayed at Bosky Dell which has the most unbelievable views over boulders beach and beyond. and relaxed atmosphere. It would make an ideal wedding venue with just a few tweaks. The staff and managers Elsa and Rosa do their utmost to help and are very informative as regards places to visit etc. The accomodation is quite basic and perhaps a few extra items would be helpfull but the view from our stable cottage was amazing and we never ever closed the front curtains!!! They made our stay in South Africa for our daughters wedding a really home from home affair and we will certainly revisit when possible. For a relaxed no hastle holiday cottage with penquins in the garden and a fab restaurent just down the road you just cannot do better. Thankyou all so much.

Room Tip: If you are stopping short or stopping long this is the place where you belong. Ask for the stable co...

The location of this self catering cluster of cottages is excellent. We were a family of 4 and hired Cottage A which was behind the main house the rooms were OK and the bathroom was OK, they shouldn't bother with the shower on the wall, almost impossible to use! The fridge and kitchen is hopelessly too small and under equipped for a family of 4. The living area is also very small. They seem to rely too much on the location to justify the prices. I would rather hire the main house which looks far more spacious and has unbelievable views

Not a hotel, but a collection of self-catering houses, almost right on Boulders Beach, Simonstown. Absolutely amazing location, we stayed in the Main House which sleeps six. It's quite basic but charming. Big enclosed garden with some resident penguins! Direct access to beach. Amazing views from verandah, excellent spot to sit with a glass of wine! Just around corner from Boulders Beach Lodge which is ideal for breakfast/dinner.
