The beach is beautiful and the penguins are amazing, it is a must visit in Cape Town. It has an appeal to all ages.

You can watch for hours or even swim with them is you do not mind the cold water.

To learn more about South Africa's Naval Heritage - this is surely the place to find out! White serene buildings with the neatness of the Navy - awesome!

I spent my last day in South Africa in Simon's Town and about 2-3 hours in this museum. It was time well spent.

The museum is housed in an old Dutch building off the main road leading into town. The museum is quite thorough, starting off with the early history of the Cape Peninsula and the Khoisan people and the arrival of the Dutch. You can then explore the two levels at your own pace. Other rooms cover the Royal Navy, the people of Simon's Town, and of course Just Nuisance, the famous dog.

What I liked about this museum is that there seems to be something for everyone's interest, even if it's just learning about the World Wars. There is even a stockroom which is left over from the slavery years.

Of course an audio guide would have enhanced the experience, but overall it was very worthwhile. The staff was quite courteous and helpful, assisting me in finding a couple esoteric books on the history of the Royal Navy.

Highly recommended.
