“Avoid at all costs”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2014

Went there twice. The first time was in January 2012 when we had a great time and we really loved the food (so much that we advised others to visit). So we decided to go for a second time in January 2014.
This time the food was terrible. We all had seafood. One of us had the "fish of the day", which in reality should have been called the "fish of several days ago" and we all had a taste and agreed it was not fresh. You could taste it and feel it in its texture... Stupidly, we did not complain.
The same night all of us had (thankfully mild) symptoms of food poisoning. I must also add that we did not completely recover until after a few days.
This ruined not only our visit there and our mood for a few days, but also the nice memories we had from our previous visit.
Would prefer to starve than visit them again.

“To avoid if you're looking for real seafood”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2014

We went there based on recommendation of tripadvisor, and it was a real disappointment. We ordered the seafood platter. Except the oysters, it was terrible : fish and prawns were not only overcooked but flavorless and calamari were of no interest...
If you are looking for restaurant in Simon's Town, just go to the center on the main road (Lighthouse Café, Sweetest thing, Captain's table, ...)

“My favourite breakfast location in Simon's Town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2014

This is my family's favourite breakfast place in Simon's Town. The location is beautiful (try to sit outside on the deck if the wind isn't blowing too hard), The food is great, my particular favourite being the Asian Wok Fried Eggs, which are really delicious and a bit of a change from the conventional English breakfast. Service is not always super speedy, but the waiters are so friendly and cheerful it's difficult to begrudge the fact that you have to sit for a little while longer than usual, scanning for penguins while you await your brekkie. Definitely worth at least one, but preferably many, visits.

“Absolute Sub-standard Service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2013

We went there with a group of 10 people and waited first for about 30 minutes just to get a glass of water. Then another 20 minutes before our orders were taken. Then more than an 1½ hours to be served fish & chips and salads. Then some items on the menu were not available, and, and, and.... Absolute horrendous service and it was not as if they were really really busy :-( . Dated 31st December 2013

“slow service, generally good food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2013

We ate here twice for breakfast and twice for dinner whilst staying here. I have mixed feelings about the place. You can't see the beach from here (nice view of the car park) but if you are lucky a penguin will wander by. Some of the food was lovely (eggs benedict at breakfast, linefish and sirloin steak at dinner). Menu is limited and they seemed to have always run out of something, and didn't tell you until you tried to order it. For the inclusive breakfast, they only had apple juice one morning and wouldn't offer a replacement cold drink (orange juice was available the morning before). Some of the items weren't quite how they were described e.g. prawns with egg noodles was more like pasta in garlic sauce and only had 5 prawns.
Service was always slow. The waiters were friendly when they came but it was hard to catch their eye.
It still seems to be quite popular though, especially at weekends. Be aware last dinner orders are at 8pm.
