“Moderately priced package - great for families with small children”
Reviewed January 14, 2013

The Sweetwaters property is perfect for families traveling with children. From the meals provided via buffet to the swimming pool, this property, located inside a well maintained conservancy, is perfect for traveling with kids. There are wonderful animals to be seen by the watering hole, including a thirsty rhino during our visit in January, and the family can even take their own vehicle through the park on safari. I also recommend visiting the chimp conservancy within Ol Pejeta property.
Drawbacks: the tents are right on top of each other and there is no soundproofing. This means you will hear everything from crying babies to conversations conducted in the surrounding tents. The dining room is also extremely chaotic with mad rushes to the buffet lines as soon as the tent is opened.

This is not a luxury property by any means, but is perfect for a family outing. If you are looking for a romantic weekend, seek lodging elsewhere, including The Fairmont's Safari Club.

Additional note: I concur with other reviewers in their assessment of the female gatekeeper. She is unpleasant and far from efficient. Bring small change to pay your fees, if at all possible, to make the process easier.

Room Tip: Recommend tents on front line (not on stilts) for best view of watering hole

Great location!! Tents are very comfortable, clean with enough space. There was a lot of open space in front of our tent. There was a small stream flowing. We saw a lot of animals and beautiful birds. Just sitting out of the tent and listening to jungle sound was an amazing experience. Hotel premises is beautiful. Hotel staff and food was great. Added benefit is free Wi-Fi. Game drive in Ole Pajeto National Park was breathtaking. We enjoyed our stay there. If I visit Kenya again, I will definitely go to this place one more time.

My wife and I went on this trip. Reached there after a long drive. What was in store for us was just amazing.

A very nice place, spacious tents, very good service, good spread of food and amazing staff. The game drive was also very good. Another attraction was, tents having WIFI.

There is this watering hole, which is surrounded by a series of tents; though there is lot of activity during the day, we saw many animals during the evening, night and dawn.

This was the best staying experience in our trip to Kenya.

Room Tip: There are new tents, the ones to the right side of the property, Morani Wing. These tents have '...

Sweetwater is just wonderful, with comfortable tented accommodations, good food, and brilliant game rides - two game-stalking lionesses walking just four feet from the vehicle. And best of all, the perfect watering hole fifty feet from the lounge tent - how veddy veddy British of them to place it so the best animals, including the elephants, come to drink their dirty water while you drink your dirty martini. This place was such a treat for all these reasons, the best lodge I visited, by far, in Kenya.

Room Tip: For sure get a ground level room, the best views. If you want privacy and uninstructed views to the...

We stayed at the Morani Wing, which is the deluxe tents and also new and recently renovated.. the tents are large and spacious.. with a kingbed and a babycot on request. The bathrooms are also well done. But the only things missing in rooms were a kettle and hairdryer... tea and coffee are 24hrs in another tent in the hotel, so u need to go there to have them. but the view from the tents is simply superb.. water bucks seem to graze in the property... and even an ostrich was wondering close to our tent.. the meals are all buffet.. all the spread isnt that grt, the food is tasty.. Our tour was arranged by Mr. Geoffrey Tanui, from www.untamedafricasafaris.com... He did a fabulous job...

We were at sweetwaters after visiting the Kicheche bush camp in mara, And to add to the woe we got the tree top room in the second row compared to the first row tents facing the waterhole . so we were kind of disappointed.

Our tent was spacious and clean. The food was a sumptuous fare. The restaurant faces the waterhole so you can enjoy the animals while eating. We had the company of marabou stork right outside the glass window throughout during breakfast.
The safari drives were not as good as compared to the mara but we did manage to see the grevy zebras and white rhino which were not found in mara. The visit to the chimpanzee sanctuary was wonderful. They take you for a walk inside the sanctuary which gave a mix eperience of jurassic park and congo .We also an extra night safari at 100$ each which was a different experience. On the drive we saw couple of jackals feeding on a carcass. Our hope for the kill didnt materialise although a few guests had seen it 2 days back !!

Room Tip: Take the tent in the first row facing the waterhole .

The best of the 3 Serena establishments we stayed at, mid-May 2012.
Management assures us that 'They have measures in place to maintain the tranquillity of the camp' but you still may find children chasing each other around the tents.
Management also responded that 'Due to restrictions in the use of Pesticides there may be localised problems with insects in the main building. We have been informed that they are not 'Cockroaches' but little green bugs that go into the building during the rains, but they looked like 'Cockroaches' to me. Still they do try.
A further consideration maybe 'Work in Progress' during your stay for which the management 'make no apologies as they do not relent in improving thier product.
The highlight was a visit to the water hole by the Elephants just as we had finished our drinks in the bar. Chimp & Rhino sanctuaries was worth visiting as a lot of Game was seen on route.

Room Tip: Our teny, Number 1, was the first in line. However the site is changing with the addition of 12 move...
