A group of 8 friends including myself stayed in Forresters hut recently,as we were climbing Mt Barney. The campgrounds are beautifully kept with spotless amenities including toilet/shower block. The setting, with Mount Barney in plain view just cannot be beaten.Forresters hut itself was perfect for our needs. The kitchen is well stocked with plates, crockery, fridge microwave and oven.Lovely big dining table and cosy fireplace which was heavenly. We had a wonderful weekend and couldn't find fault with anything.Owners of this place should be proud.Thank you.

It was an amazing weekend! (April 25th - 28th) I must commend the Lodge for their superb outlay of the camp grounds, the facilities and the maintenance of the camp grounds. I have never seen such beautifully keep camp grounds. no dust, just beautiful green grass.

i am trying to think of something that i disliked but i can't. maybe there could have been more stars, but thats our fault. shouldnt have booked on a w/end of a full moon!! doah!

oh, the track to the watering hole could have been a little more user friendly, small children found it a little difficult, too much long grass and mud. am i being too fussy here? maybe.

but all said and done, totally perfect!
we will be back!!

Ahhh, the full moon - have you ever tried a night bushwalk under the full moon?? My favourite is Cronan Ck Cascades in summer as you can have a late avo swim, then walk back by torchlight for 2 hours via a 4WD track when it is cool. My advice is to do a rekky first though!!

We really enjoyed our 3 days, that we had last weekend at Mount Barney Lodge. The place is fantastic, with well kept grounds and an excellent amenities block. It is also a great place for families too, as the children have plenty of places to explore. We will certainly be returning there for another holiday. Perfect peace.

Great to read that you really enjoyed your stay. I reckon 3 days is just right to shake off the stresses of the city and let the serenity of Mt Barney soak into your soul!

I spent the weekend at Mt Barney Lodge Country Retreat as part of a group of very enthusiastic photographers. We could not have had better weather nor scenery for practising new skills in photography. What made the weekend workshop even better was the accommodation in Moringararah Homestead (the original homestead on the property) and the excellent lunches and dinner prepared by Tracey and her helpers. Like the first visit on a similar weekend in October 2012, Innes and Tracey were very enthisiastic about our efforts at photographing in and around their property and added a lot of information to go with what we captured.

Tracey needs to give everyone her recipe for Orange and Poppy Seed cake after we all had at least 2 helpings for morning tea.

For a group of friends or a group doing a workshop of any type I cannot recommend this place highly enough and it is only 1.5 hours from Brisbane but a million miles away.

We really enjoy the variety of groups that use Mt Barney Lodge for their conferencing/workshop/celebration/creative needs. We are so fortunate that most groups are also happy sharing their experience and learnings with us – this time I was inspired by Pinhole Photography and projection of a scenic photo back onto the building it was taken from – wow!! Awesome!!

I promise to include the Orange and Poppy Seed cake recipe in the next Mt Barney Lodge Enewsletter, as shared recipes are always featured in it.

Our family recently spent two nights in Henry's Hut at Mt Barney Lodge Country Retreat, and despite inclement weather, we had a great time.

The hut was 'rustic' in the true sense of the word. A basic kitchen, small but cosy lounge area, two bedrooms plus front and rear covered verandah areas. No bathroom, no toilet, but the amenities block was 20m away and we were fully aware of this fact when I made the booking. I did feel the price was a bit steep considering you had to BYO bed linen, but I have to admit that unique accommodation in relatively remote locations tends to come with an associated 'price tag'. The locally sourced leaf tea and plunger coffee was a nice touch, and perhaps for the price paid a litre of milk in the fridge and a bag of firewood would be welcome extra additions?

Henry's Hut really came into it's own when it started bucketing down outside. We were warm and dry inside while our camping friends were getting a bit soggy around the edges. Sometimes it's nice to have a roof over your head!

Staff were friendly, professional and went out of their way to assist us. They provided fun and affordable wet weather activities for our children, giving parents some time to relax by the fire and enjoy a nice red (or two)...

Grounds are well kept, not overly crowded by campers and guests and there is plenty of space for everyone to spread out. The amenities block looks relatively new, and provides 3 toilets and 2 showers for both ladies and gents. These facilities were reasonably clean during our stay (pretty muddy outside so difficult to judge) but someone needs to get in there and give the place a damn good cobwebbing up in the rafters and behind the doors. I know this is the bush but it looks like The Addams Family have been to stay : )

In closing, I have to mention that the scenery is simply spectacular. Glorious. Stunning. Get the picture? The creek at the base of the property looks like something you might see in a movie. It gets even better if you follow it up to Yellowpinch at the base of Mt Barney. Most of the kids and some adults swam, rockhopped, paddled and braved the rope swing to splash into it's clear and highly refreshing (read freezing) waters.

Queensland's magnificent Mt Barney appeared in and out of the clouds, reminding us how small we really are, and how little things like 'cost per night' and 'cobwebs' don't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

Thank you Mt Barney Lodge Country Retreat for having us, and we look forward to returning in the future.

Room Tip: Henry's Hut is a good option if you can't be bothered putting up your tent. Makes for an eas...

Thanks for your review - you timed your stay in Henrys Hut perfectly as the popularity of the huts increases with rainy and cold weather. Nothing is more luxurious than visiting camping friends when you have a toasty hut as a fallback!! Big points for swimming in the creek when it was cold - Have you seen the recent photo of the creek on Facebook? – even I went ooohh and aaahhh!!

Our accommodation prices have a sliding scale, depending on the standard of facilities and service. You can camp, glamp, hut or homestead with us. Linen hire is a standard flat rate across the board – and the background behind this is that our commitment to ecotourism principles and water supply (all our water comes from the creek) mean that we have to sustainably manage our resources. The price of the linen also serves to actively encourage guests to bring their own bedding from home, so that we can minimize onsite laundering.

We provide complimentary firewood in winter when heating is essential, but charge for “ambient” firewood outside of these times. This is another considered approach for managing limited resources and reducing our business carbon footprint – from our experience we know if we provide it, it will be burned!! But complimentary milk is definitely possible - now that 4Real Milk is about to be launched by a local dairy farmer who has decided to produce, process, bottle and distribute his own milk (see http://www.scenicrim4realmilk.com.au/Scenic-Rim-4Real-Milk-pg25644.html), this is something we would like to share with our guests as a way of promoting local foods – again , this reduces our business carbon footprint as the energy imbedded in food transport costs are drastically reduced, as paddock to plate is just over 20km!! Look out for complimentary milk in the huts and homesteads for for tea and coffee.

The spiders have been dealt with since your post – I’m sorry that they were beyond bush standards. One of our tag lines is to “see wildlife in it’s natural state”, but there are not many spider fans out there. They have been broomed outside to make acceptable misty morning cobweb displays for the photographers. We’ll keep our eye on them!!

Thanks for bringing attention to these small matters which we can easily address to allow you to have a grand holiday.

We had a fabulous stay at Mt Barney over the Easter holidays. We were in a group of 3 families, and we had plenty of room spread out, set up communal kitchen areas and have room for the kids to run about and play. The open fires around the camp sites were brilliant and kept our kids amused for hours! I loved the fact that we weren't cramped in next to other campers. The view of Mt Barney from our 'kitchen' was great too.
The kids night adventure was a real highlight for the kids and for the parents back at camp who had piece and quiet for 2 & 1/2 hours!
Nea in the office had a great wealth of information about the bushwalks and advised us on what walks would be suitable for our children. They also suggested a great drive to do on the one rainy day we had. The drive they suggested - Lions Drive - was just brilliant and was a highlight of our trip.
We can't wait to come back!

We often wonder who the night adventure is more popular with .... the kids or the adults!! 2&1/2 hours of adventure run by trained Outdoor Leaders ticks everyones boxes!! The kids have been known to return for a second consecutive night, and the adults always say that thier 2&1/2 hours of serenity passed too quickly!! Maybe next time you can do The Head/Queen Mary Falls road trip ....

Our family of four (2 under 8) camped here recently around Easter when they were at capacity. It never felt crowded! They have a maximum of 100 campers, regardless of the number of tents, so it never looked cramped. Every other tent was quite large - two or three rooms, with/without annex - but there still felt like plenty of room. Plenty of campfire areas too, so if you have problems with smoke, you would need to choose carefully. That being said, not every campfire was going at one time when we were there.

The property has a small creek (only 3 or 4 metres wide when we saw it after heavy rain) which was perfect for kids of all ages to play in. A good view of Mt Barney can be had easily and the start of the park is a 10 minute walk away - getting to the top would be another matter, which we didn't attempt. Very quiet with zero passing traffic noise.

Amenities were good - clean showers (3 in the mens), clean toilets, hot showers, and the handbasin even had fresh flowers! Appeared to be cleaned regularly (even daily?). The only improvement I'd look for is an additional basin (or at least plug) for the dishwashing sink. There were two sinks available which meant that sometimes there was a slight queue. There are also two laundry tubs you could use if push came to shove, at least for the hot water into a pot if nothing else.

The service we knew about included various adventure programs for kids but we didn't try any. The office staff were very helpful and stocked ice, firewood and bread. The upside of this location is it's quiet, the downside is that you are a half-hour's drive to get more supplies if you need them. No major drama though as the roads to here were mainly bitumen with a tiny last part that was dirt but very easy to drive on for non-4WD cars.

Room Tip: Look at the lay of the land carefully, consider the wind direction and proximity to campfires. There...

Thanks for your feedback, I'm really pleased your camping experience was enjoyed by your whole family. The lit washup area is more popular than a true camp kitchen back at the tent, so a slight queue during peak times does occur. We reckon that this queue is like the office "drinking fountain" ... it is where conversations take place and new friendships are struck up. My quick checks of the amenities are often delayed as I get caught up in the social side with those who gather at the kitchen, I love it!! I'm sorry that we don't have the infrastructure to provide another sink, but I can definately make sure that there are always enough plugs!!
