Description: The restaurant "I due Papi" (The Two Popes) it's just a few steps from the Borgo, in the ancient wine cellars and stables of the Castle. Actually, two popes owned Sismano in the past. One was Benedetto Caetani (Pope Boniface VIII), who purchased Sismano in 1294, four years before his election. The other was Lorenzo Corsini (Pope Clement XII),whose family had bought Sismano more than a century before his election in 1730. Today the restaurant is still owned and managed by a descendant of this florentine princely family. At the Restaurant "I due Papi" you will experience the true local dishes of the Umbrian cuisine. The chianina steak of Sismano's organic farm and the game from Sismano's hunting estate are barbecued in the big fireplace in the restaurant's dining room.

We first went to Sismano for the opening of a well curated art exhibition "Per un arte fluida", a few weeks ago. There we met Ginevra, the lovely owner of the castle, who suggested we should come for dinner to the "2 Papi" Restaurant. So we did a few days later. The atmosphere was magical, with just a few tables placed in the garden with a view towards the unspoilt hills. The food was excellent, all sourced locally.
We loved the varied antipasti. The service was professional but also very warm; the chef came to our table to describe the dishes and make sure we enjoyed our dinner. In all of this, Ginevra came to say hello and gave us an insight in the estate's history. We were also given a private tour of the exhibition, which the children loved. Italy as it should be......

We had a great evening at this restaurant in a castle. The atmosphere is terrific, the food and service very good and the overall experience wonderful. We also had the added pleasure of having the contessa, the restaurant's owner, join us for drinks before dinner. She is a delightful woman with most interesting stories.

Cooked over the fire in the dining room fireplace - this restaurant has it all. A great ambiance, the Italian food, the slow food service, a small town atmosphere (Sismano) and a beautiful dining room.

I enjoyed eating here, in front of the enormous fireplace, in a beautiful, historic room.
I ordered Chinanina filet of beef, Bufala mozzarella and delicious, homemade fresh pasta.
For dessert we shared a coffee panna cotta.
this restaurant is located in an ancient Borgo, or tiny hamlet....very romantic.....not far from the town of Todi, in Umbria, Italy
