“Take a hike!”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

Trails were very well mapped and marked and in good condition. Most offer a challenge since you are hiking in rolling terrain. We encountered few people on the trails even on a weekend. Not as pretty as central Arkansas. Trails don't feature a lot of rock outcrops. Lake views are pretty fantastic, although infrequent. The woods themselves are beautiful with ferns and moss. We hiked the Pigeon Roost trail and the Bashore loop. Be sure to pick up a map at the trailhead or the new visitor center. The staff there was very friendly and helpful and there is a nice picnic area at the visitor center as well.

“something for everyone”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

A great place in a beautiful setting. The visitor's center is really nice for kids, lots of interactive activities like a walk in 'cave' with buttons to push and locate cave critters like bats, spiders, etc. Also inside the center is a bird watching spot with binoculars and bird books for spotting all types of birds at their numerous feeders. The highlight for us was the endless choices of hiking trails. We chose the historic trail that takes you to an old mill village, blacksmith, gardens, etc. The ruins are sparse, but well documented along the easy to walk path.

“Hike-O-Rama!!!”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

This is a very beautiful and awesome area for hiking. There are many trails to choose from. In addition, the new park welcome center off of HWY 12 is a great place to start and get all the info you need to figure out your day.
