My wife and I booked the Petra Moon Hotel in Jordan, for our visit to Petra world heritage site mainly based upon the positive reviews in Trip Advisor.....and they were right on the mark. Perhaps , in our judgement, a bit lower than our experiences indicated. From the very beginning of our booking experience, they responded to every e-mail question I had and did so with great patience and great indulgence. Upon arrival, this friendly attitude and patience with still my manyadditional questions did not change.
I requested, by e-mail, a room overlooking Petra and in a quiet area. Their e-mailed response was that they will certainly honor our request and they were right. We had room, 406, which consisted of a roomy bedroom with 2 beds, sufficiently large bathroom with shower etc.In addition there was also a separate sitting area with a sofa and lighting which gave us the feel of a suite. In other words, we felt very comfortable with this room and high enough so the street noise was muted and caused no difficulties especially during our sleep time. The room was clean and comfortable.
The breakfasts , which in our case came with the room, were buffet style and more than sufficient to satisfy almost anyone's breakfast needs. There was even a chef available to make almost any kind of egg dish one can desire. Beware of stuffing yourself too much because if you were going to walk through the Petra site, you do not want to carry all that additional weight you added during your breakfast indulgence.
The first night we chose to eat at the hotels restaurant and it was the correct choice. It was buffet style with a huge array of salads, condiments , breads and about 6 chafing dishes with foods from rice to chicken, fish and some meats. The sweets or desserts were absolutely wonderful and with great variety.
Although a bit pricey but when compared to outside restaurants, one of which we went to the second night, Petra Moon Hotel Restaurant was far better, seemingly fresher, better prepared and with greater variety. From our perspective and it was limited, we should have had our second nights meal in the hotel.
One problem we did have was that we could not get the TV to work correctly and in retrospect, it was the best left alone. Instead of watching TV, we read and found that we did not miss having the TV on.In fact and amazingly so, through our month's stay in Israel, we did not turn the TV on. Unfortunately, this positive behavior stopped when we arrived back home in NY. TV addiction is a home grown behavior.
When we checked out, we mentioned to them several problems we found in the room none of which prevented us from our enjoyment but they did write them down and sent maintenance to repair them.We were impressed with their attitudes about maintaining the rooms. This may have been for show only but based upon all that we have witnessed at this hotel, it seemed very sincere.
If we ever come back to Petra because although we spent more than7 hours of continuous walking through this vast amazing place, we covered a small amount of it, we would most certainly come back to this hotel and do recommend it ..period!
One last point, The Petra entrance is indeed close but downhill from any of the hotels in the area. At the end of your day in this marvelous site, walking uphill to your comfortable hotel is a chore but if you pace yourself and take a few rest breaks, you can make it. We did and we are not "spring chickens". Rather a couple of older hens.. Oh yes, the A/C was great sorry about not mentioning this earlier.
