Wonerful hotel and friendly stuff! The sunset view was fantastic and we (group of 4 persons) enjoyed our 2 days stay! One more time we experienced the great Jordanian hospitality in the best possible way!

We’re relatively easy to please, but we couldn’t rate the Grand View any better than ‘okay’. And if it were not for the Marriott right next door with a pretty good restaurant, we may have rated the Grand View poorer. We had arranged a pre-paid 3-day whirlwind Jordanian tour with an Amman travel agent, so we had one morning in Petra before driving back to Amman. We arrived at the hotel at 5 o’clock in the evening, then left at 8 the next morning, so all we really needed was a meal and a bed. Service was indeed spotty, we had to go to the Manager in order to get someone to agree to serve us a beer at the pool (we had been told it was “impossible”). The staff was nice and friendly, but the service was approaching non-existent. The room was ‘okay’, most hotels would have renovated by now. The breakfast buffet was perhaps better than ‘okay’, but not by much. Since our room was pre-paid by our travel agent, we didn’t have to check in or out, which is good because the morning check-out looked pretty hectic. This hotel services a lot of bus tours, and they all seem to leave at the same time, so there was a big crowd trying to check out and few staff at the counter. So you’re probably better off to settle your bill the night before, if you can. The location is isolated – the Marriott next door is the only thing you can walk to. Petra and its modern townsite are not close by. So we do not recommend a long stay here. The view is sort of nice, but it’s a relatively barren desert that you’re looking at. It is a nice vista, but it wears thin quickly. The pool is huge (much bigger than the Marriott next door), and in the right weather and with good service, it could well be enjoyable. We were there in April which is still a bit cool – we jumped in the pool to refresh from a long drive, but we were out pretty quickly. We didn’t try the restaurant for dinner – it did not look promising. The restaurant at the Marriott did look better, so we ate at the Marriott and had a very enjoyable meal. It’s only a few minute walk between the two. Summary: this was probably once a very nice hotel, indeed may have been ‘grand’. It has truly ‘grand’ public spaces and tons of potential, but it is somewhat run down and in need of renovation. It easily has 5-star potential, but except for its size it now compares with a 2- or 3-star. So, for one or two nights at the right price, it may offer value. But if you’re staying longer or seek 4 or 5-star accommodation, you should consider other options. However, unless you really enjoy scrutinizing every nook and cranny, I wouldn’t advise more than one day to explore Petra. Granted, my wife and I are indeed “20 minute tourists”, so you may take our opinion with a grain of salt, but we advise that one day is more than enough time to see and appreciate Petra. We spent only a half day in Petra, and we’re confident that we saw it all.

Room Tip: Overlooking the pool or on the 'view' side away from the highway.

We stayed in this hotel for two nights on Jan 1st and 2nd 2012 during our visit to Petra and Wadi rum. This hotel is a very good one with regard to comfort, room quality, food, service and ofcourse good scenic view of sandstone mountains. We were at 3rd floor with amazing view of first sun rays lightening the mountain tip and the view was just mesmerizing. The hotel was clean and tidy. Hotel staff were very helpful and well behaved. Dinner buffet had quite a number of choices. I found breakfast buffet was good. One minor issue was that the windows were not very well insulated and so cold air was always making its way in our room. Overall I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: If you are interested to have a good view from your rood do ask them.

Except the location almost everything else about the hotel is perfect. I had some apprehension after reading the previous reviews about unclean rooms etc. But my suite was pretty clean, well kept and really large. The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. The pool, lounge and other areas of the hotel are enjoyable. The food was nice : vegetarians also had reasonable options. We stayed here 2 nights and the first night was a bit spooky because we were the only guests in the entire hotel!! The chef had to come in and cook dinner for just the 2 of us :-) The next day there was a large group of tourists - so it seemed a bit more normal :-) The only drawback with the location is that it is 17km away from the city center - so there is absolutely nothing to do around the hotel. The wifi was pretty good and reliable though, so you can spend a couple of hours surfing the net (not the best thing to do on vacation, but at least you have a choice :D )

This hotel is a grand old lady and not at all like today's modern plastic hotels. It is full of character and old fashioned elegance with fabulous views over the solent, (you can spend hours just looking out of the window). This hotel is beautiful, individual and stylish, it cannot be compared to modern hotels - if you want plastic cloned standards, try one of the big chains.

Our room (239) was large, comfortable and spotlessly clean, staff were attentive without being intrusive and the food was terrific ...

If you on second floor great, if on first..its worst!! Our friends got room on first floor and they said its not at all worth, we got the only one left on second floor which had good view.

Hotel staff were rude, for a simple coffee it took them more than 30 minutes. After which the coffee arrived in form of warm water, coffee sachet and sugar sachet, wonder what took them 30 minutes to make this?

We asked for a king size bed on booking and we got a two queen size bedroom, disappointed as me and hubby were together. As we checked with hotel reception what they offered us to stay on first floor which we said NO (lucky as we our friends told us about their experience of first floor on next day)

Breakfast was strictly ok.. but nice view from the dinning room

Room Tip: Select room on second floor
