“Fantastic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

We stayed in this wonderful hotel for 2 nights in June 2013. It beats the Movenpick DeadSea Resort by a mile. The food was fantastic, all the staff were very professional, but also very courteous, friendly and helpful. We could not fault our room or the hotel. Everyone was very helpful to my elderly mother. I can't wait to go back to this hotel one day.

Thank you, and we hope to see you again sometime soon.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

In our three-week trip through Turkey and Jordan, this is by far the best accommodation we had--excellent service throughout the hotel, from the engineer who tried to fix our air-conditioning to the outstanding front desk. As independent travelers, we often tax the front desk staff with questions such as where we can find a SIM card for our iPhones, but every inquiry here was handled with aplomb and courtesy.

On our last night, the hotel restaurant was closed for dinner. We were disappointed as we had to make an early departure the next morning and after visiting Petra all day did not want to venture out into the town. Suddenly, a waiter appeared and we were whisked to a room off the breakfast room and treated like sultans. We were served the best meal we had in Jordan, which began with four mezze. We orded the signature Jordanian dish of mansaf, accompanied by a great Jordanian red, and then desert, all for about $88 U.S. plus tip. Service was very attentive.

The one reason for leaving off the last star was the air-conditioning in our superior double room, which faced the pool. It just did not work, and although we were offered another room, we did not take it because it was in the middle of the night that we discovered the problem and we had already unpacked. We felt it was too much of a hassle to change rooms the second night; the engineer was sent to our room again and the air worked for an hour after he left.

Linens were immaculate; we especially liked the large, fluffy bath towels. The mattress was okay (a bit hard for me), but the pillows were good. Plentiful counter space in the bathroom for your toiletries, and good quality bar soap and shower gel are provided. There are even washcloths. The shower always had hot water, although it's in the tub.

The pool is not heated and was about 77 degrees F. the two days we were there when air temps were in the mid-80s. It felt cold, and the pool is a bit too small to swim laps, so it was tough to warm up. Visit the beautiful steam room afterward. Internet worked well and was free. The hotel has an elevator.

The free apples, sodas and espresso--along with an espresso maker--were a nice touch. We opted for the free breakfast where someone else made the espresso. Fresh fruit and yogurt were great, as were the sweet roles and croissants. My husband had a good omlette as well.

Room Tip: Our poolside room was quiet after 10 PM when the pool closed.

We stayed here for one night in the low season. First, I will list the positives. The best thing about the hotel is the location. It is 100 meters from the entrance to Petra. The service was great and very attentive for both the room and for meals. Breakfast was a great spread. We dined on the rooftop , and the grill was very good, and again, service was great. They were also accommodating in our request for a late checkout.

The biggest issue we had with hotel was value. We just felt we did not get what we paid for, which was a five-star hotel. The room, especially the bathroom, felt rundown. Our air conditioner was not working properly, and they were not able to fix it. Luckily, it was not a hot time to be there. The hotel felt like it needed an update and needs it soon.

If your main objective is spending time at Petra, the location of the Movenpick is unbeatable. It is a well-maintained property that offered an excellent breakfast. Popular choice so it can be a bit crowded. There are several restaurants nearby but it is somewhat removed (short cab ride) from Wadi Musa should you find yourself in need of more services (pharmacy, etc.).

We stayed at the hotel for 1 night but were made to feel welcome from entering the hotel. Check in was quick and easy and even a welcome drink was brought to us at the front desk. The rooms were spacious and the minibar was free. Shame there wasn't loads of drinks in the minibar.

The hotel is located just outside the gates to Petra. You can simply just walk straight into the hotel after a hard day's walking. The roof garden was a nice place to have a BBQ dinner overnight and even the breakfast restaurant was well appointed.

What marks this hotel out is the service. From organising a friend's surprise birthday dinner by email, to the welcome to the caring nature at breakfast. I can't imagine why anyone would stay anywhere else in Petra if you have the money.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2013

My sister and I stayed at the Movenpick Petra in June 2013 for 3 nights.
We arrived in Petra at around 9am after a 3 hour bus journey from Amman, and even though I knew the hotel was close to the main Petra gate, I didnt realise it was only a 3 minute walk away, so that's a definite 5 stars, just for location!
After going though the airport style security just outside the lobby, we asked Reception whether we could check in early, and they said yes, as the room was already ready. During the check in process, which was very quick and easy, we were presented with a welcome drink (I think it was chilled Hibiscus juice, very nice and refreshing).
We had a room on the second floor, with a balcony, which was lovely! Nothing like sitting out there watching the world go by, and watching the people walk from Petra :)
The room itself was lovely, nicely decorated, and cool. The mini-bar had a choice of non-alcoholic that were free, and replenished for free everyday, as well as a 1.5L bottle of water.
The beds were very very comfortable, with what seemed like a feather topper on the mattress too, and the pillows were very supportive. Very clean throughout, and a very powerful shower with dead sea mineral shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion and mineral salts for the bath.
That night we opted for the hotel buffet, at £27 per person, which I thought was a it steep, and unfortunately, I was put off some of the food due to a few flies crawling over the cheese, a couple of fly catchers should hopefully help in that regard. If you don't fancy buffet style dinner, or want to save some money, opt for the lobby menu, which is good value, filling and really nice.
We ordered lunch boxes for our trek to Petra, and they were great, and the room service was excellent here, and not too expensive either.
Breakfast in this hotel was buffet style again, with really good coffee, which impressed me.
The interior spaces of the hotel are totally beautiful, with nice seating areas and decorations.
All the staff that we came in contact with were very helpful and courteous.
If I were to come back to Petra again, I would definitely be staying at this hotel again, and I can very definitely recommend it!!

Room Tip: I don't know if all rooms have a balcony, if they don't try to get one, they're great!
