Amra Palace Hotel
Ranked #15 of 41 Hotels in Petra - Wadi Musa
Reviewed May 13, 2013

Forget star ratings The Amra Palace is the best option in Wadi Musa. The hotel was way beyond our expectation in both appearance and service. The rooms are very clean and modern, the bed extremely comfortable and the view of Wadi Musa over to Petra is spectacular. True, it is not by the gate, but all the hotels there are like concrete blocks (even the 5 star luxury) and the Amra Palace seems to be the only hotel in Wadi Musa with gardens. It is amazing what a difference a bit of greenery makes after a day of sightseeing and dust. The swimming pool was also a definite plus. The staff were probably the most friendly and helpful that we have met anywhere in the world not just in Jordan. The owner introduced himself and made us feel like his very special guests and I am sure this hospitality is offered to all guests. We stayed 5 nights and were able to enjoy Petra at leisure and the hotel arranged for us to go to Wadi Rum (which we had not planned on doing - but are very glad we did). The food is excellent, the terrace has a good atmosphere and the inside restaurant is very pleasant. The breakfasts are varied , appetising and plentiful and the evening meal is not only good value but also excellent quality. Did not get chance to try the Hammam but as we intend to go back will try it next time.
The shuttle to the Petra gate is very convenient and efficient and even if you wanted to go or come back at a different time, the taxi price is very reasonable. You could walk to the gate in 20 minutes but as there is a lot of walking to do in Petra itself , it is not recommended.
We can't rate this hotel highly enough and look forward to a return trip.

Room Tip: Room on the front overlooking Wadi Musa. All the rooms seem of good quality

Never been before in a hotel of such good value. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful, rooms are clean and nice, breakfast buffet is very good. Dinner buffet is great for a very low price. Hotel is locayed at walking distance from the historical site but nevertheless a free shutle is available 6 times a day ( 3 morning/ 3 afternoon). I've been recommending this hotel to all my friends; forget the ( very ) expensive hotels in the neigborhood, just go for this one; you will not be disapointed...

Amra Palace Hotel in Petra is a price-quality TOP location! After a first 3 days (2 nights) stay in this hotel coming from Jerusalem with a rent car, once back in Jerusalem we found out that our Petra trip had been to short to enjoy this world heritage wonder to the full and we rebooked the week later for a 4 days (3 nights ) stay in Amra Palace Hotel. The Director and staff are very friendly and outmost helpfull with service and information about the hotel, the Petra heritage and Wadi Rum. Free shuttle mini-bus from hotel to the Petra heritage entrance are available on several hours and arrangements can be booked for taxi and guided tours to the Wadi Rum desert valley. Management and English speaking staff give you an outmost warm welcome and feeling during your stay. The Director has a walking management and problem solving style and keeps a personal contact with the residents. All staff is contactable for questions and desires at all times. Breakfast and supper are excellent and quality food which can be enjoyed on a wonderful terras. Lunch packages for Petra and Wadi Rum, or for travel journey can be ordered. We enjoyed the swimming pool for a short relaxing time. If you look for a price-quality hotel, for a rest area between the Petra and Wadi Rum visit, this is the place to be! You will encounter and never forget the warm hearts of the Jordan people.

We stayed in the Amra Palace for two nights whilst visiting Petra. We really enjoyed our stay in the hotel and found the staff friendly, willing and very helpful. For example, we had stayed in a Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum the night before and wanted to shower and change before heading into Petra. So we phoned the hotel and asked if we could check in early (10am) and they ensured that our room was cleaned and available for when we arrived.

We ate in the hotel both nights and found the buffet varied, tasty and good quality. As others have mentioned the hotel does not serve alcohol, but this was not a concern. The owner came and spoke to us both nights during dinner to ensure that everything was fine and we liked this personal touch.

The room was nice and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom is not at the level of a 5 Star hotel but was perfectly nice and was very clean. There is not much storage space in the room, but I guess as most people only stay 1 or 2 nights, this does not concern most people.

We had our own hire car and could park outside the hotel and it was an easy drive down to Petra.

The price for our stay was very reasonable and I think overall offered great value for money. My only criticism is that the doors are a little noisy and so you could hear doors closing whilst in your room. This did not detract from a really nice stay and I would stay there again if we return to Petra, which we hope we will.

This was a good value hotel. Yes the room is a little small and it is dated but it is clean and the bedding was comfortable. The pool is fantastic at the end of the day after walking in the sun all day at Petra. The highlight are the friendly staff who make you feel so welcome. The breakfast is extensive but the quality is only just passable. However you should find something you like given the large amount of options available. The wifi signal is poor but if you sit near the door or in the lobby it is better.

Dear Valued Guest.
Thank you for reviewing our hotel and providing some great feedback.
Our staff are by far our greatest asset at the hotel and we enjoy hearing from our guests that they found them to be friendly and welcoming. A refreshing swim in the pool is a great way to finish your long hot and dusty day walking around the site of Petra.
We hope that you enjoyed the rest of your holiday in Jordan.

The management at the Amra Palace are exceptional, and it is the friendly, welcoming and personal touches that make any stay at this hotel so enjoyable. If you are looking for a 5 star international hotel, then this is not the place for you. However, if you are looking for a clean, comfortable, hospitable, pretty boutique hotel then look no further. Our two nights at the Amra Palace became an integral part of our memorable and wonderful visit to Petra and Jordan (rather than just putting our heads on pillows to sleep) - the staff even looked after my 7 month old baby at dinner so that I could try and eat! We loved our stay, and would recommend this hotel without reservation.
